Paju Unjeong jjajangmyeon restaurant: thick kkwabaroo at Mimi China
In short
Mimi China is a Chinese restaurant on Cheonjeongguro in Unjeong, Paju, Gyeonggi. The order was two large jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) at 8,000 won plus 1,000 won for the large portion, a sinmi jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) at 12,000 won, and kkwabaroo (crispy sweet-and-sour pork) at 20,000 won: the jjajangmyeon is stir-fried with vegetable juice and no water, the jjamppong is loaded with seafood, and the kkwabaroo was the thickest the writer has had in a while. Ordering jjajangmyeon, jjamppong and kkwabaroo together is the combination that works best at Mimi China.

This is Mimi China, a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) restaurant in Unjeong, Paju.
Where is Mimi China in Unjeong, Paju, and what are the hours?
Mimi China is a Chinese restaurant at 71-1 Cheonjeongguro, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open 11:00 - 20:30, with last order at 20:00.

I'd passed Mimi China so many times on the way to E-mart, and finally made it in.
With the big "Mimi China" sign on a red background, it was easy to spot haha. It's known as a jjamppong spot in Unjeong, so I came in with high expectations 🥹
Inside Mimi China: table kiosks and how to order
Mimi China has a mini kiosk at every table, so you can order right from your seat. The tables are spaced generously and there are plenty of them.

This is the interior as soon as you walk in! Each table has its own mini kiosk ready to go, so ordering is easy. The tables are spaced well apart too, so it's comfortable to eat here. And with this many tables, it looks like a great spot for group gatherings.

The basic side dishes came out.
For extras, there's a self-serve corner! It was covered with lids and kept tidy, which made me feel even more at ease haha.

What we ordered at Mimi China and what it cost
At Mimi China I ordered two bowls of jjajangmyeon at ₩8,000 each (large portion +₩1,000), one sinmi jjamppong at ₩12,000, and kkwabaroo at ₩20,000.
- Jjajangmyeon 8,000 (+1,000 for large) x2
- Sinmi Jjamppong 12,000
- Kkwabaroo 20,000
Chatting away, the dishes came out in no time.

Jjajangmyeon stir-fried with vegetable juice only: how big is the large portion?
Mimi China's jjajangmyeon is the signature dish, stir-fried using vegetable juice instead of water. Maybe that's why no watery liquid pooled while I was eating it. It was savory and the sauce itself wasn't overpowering, which I really liked.
There was a good amount of sauce mixed through the noodles too, and above all the noodles themselves were chewy, which I loved!!!
Here's the full shot ~ haha. I ordered the large portion of jjajangmyeon, so it was a lot of food. On days you're hungrier than usual, I'd recommend going large!!!

How spicy is the sinmi jjamppong at Mimi China?
Mimi China's sinmi jjamppong was, to my taste, spicier than Shin Ramyun. I'd heard the broth was really good ,, and it exceeded my expectations.
There was plenty in the broth, and more than just plain spicy — it had a depth that kept me coming back for another spoonful..
There was more seafood in it than I expected, and the jjamppong noodles were chewy too 👏🏻 Highly recommend this one if you like spicy food. It's not overly harsh, yet the spice hits clean and refreshing — Mimi China truly deserves its jjamppong reputation.

Why order kkwabaroo instead of tangsuyuk?
I went back and forth between tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and kkwabaroo, and ended up ordering kkwabaroo after seeing the table next to us eating it. hahaha
Kkwabaroo is the real kicker here … you have to order it

So disappointed I didn't get a cross-section photo ㅠㅠ. The batter was pure crunch, and the meat inside was seriously thick … the thickest kkwabaroo I've had in a while.
No flour smell at all, just crisp batter with tender meat packed inside — a perfect match with the jjajangmyeon!!! 🤍 It also went great with the spicy sinmi jjamppong, so I'd recommend ordering this kkwabaroo alongside both. haha
Visiting Mimi China with kids and how long you wait
Mimi China has baby chairs on hand. It got busier as evening rolled around, and since dishes are cooked to order, it can take some time.

Baby chairs are ready to go!

This is the overall interior. It got a lot busier around dinnertime. Since everything is cooked to order it might take a while, but the quality makes it worth the wait, I think.
Is parking at Mimi China easy?
Parking at Mimi China was easy going. There's space in front and behind, so you can park comfortably before heading in.

Is Mimi China worth a visit in Unjeong, Paju?
Mimi China — a jjamppong spot in Paju.
Jjajangmyeon that balances savory and sweet, sinmi jjamppong with a seafood base and pure refreshing heat, and kkwabaroo with thick meat wrapped in crispy batter. On a day you're craving Chinese food, on a day you want a bowl of great spicy jjamppong ~ or a day you just want jjajangmyeon! I recommend Mimi China.
