📌If Bujaro Tower parking is full, you can use Dream Tower 2, and they apparently give you plenty of parking time too💛 A good Okjeong restaurant basically has to have easy parking for me to actually go.

Inside Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong: can it seat a group?

The inside of Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong was bigger than I expected. There are quite a lot of tables, so it's good for two people but also spacious enough for a group meal! (Recommended for family outings or gatherings in Okjeong)

Choi bone-in tonkatsu, 16,500 won: crisp enough to cut with scissors

At Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong I ordered the Choi bone-in tonkatsu for ₩16,500 and the salmon futomaki half order for ₩13,900. They came out together about 15 minutes after ordering.

Basic side dishes: pickled radish, white kimchi, and broth

The basic side dishes were chewy pickled radish, white kimchi, and a light broth soup!

The bone-in tonkatsu really did come with an actual bone attached, which was surprising haha. So it really was bone-in, true to the name(?)

They said they'd refill the rice and salad if it ran low, which was nice.

They gave us tongs and scissors so we could cut the tonkatsu ourselves, which was easier than using a knife. Cutting it with the scissors made this crispy crunching sound!!!!! You could really feel that crispy texture.

The meat was pretty thick too! The tonkatsu itself was light, savory, and tender, with a crispy exterior, so the texture combination was great. It wasn't greasy at all haha. The sauce was on the sweeter side, so I think kids would love it!! Not sure if it's a cutlet that naturally comes with the bone or if the bone was attached on purpose, but..! It felt like something between old-school Korean-style tonkatsu and Japanese-style tonkatsu — crispy and tender at the same time!

Salmon futomaki half order, 13,900 won: each piece bigger than a spoon

The salmon futomaki at Choi Dining is huge from the get-go🫢 It's way bigger than a spoon haha.

Futomaki size compared to a spoon

The futomaki (thick seaweed rice roll) is packed full with salmon, pickled radish, cucumber, shrimp tempura, burdock root, and egg (not an easy size to fit in one bite haha). It's basically the size where you take a bite of a bunch of delicious things at once.

It came with truffle mayo sauce for dipping too. The pickled radish wasn't in a whole strip but finely chopped, so it had a nice texture when you bit into it. The salmon was fresh too, with a nice savory flavor! With the shrimp tempura in there as well, you get several flavors in one bite of futomaki 😋 It's a bit hard to eat because it's so big, but it leaves you really full and satisfied haha.

Is Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong worth a visit? Final verdict

  • ✔️ A Yangju restaurant with a wide variety of Japanese dishes
  • ✔️ An Okjeong restaurant for tonkatsu
  • ✔️ Great combo of sweet sauce and light, savory tonkatsu
  • ✔️ An Okjeong restaurant for futomaki
  • ✔️ Good for group visits in Okjeong, Yangju

Between the two of us eating the tonkatsu and the futomaki, we left completely full! I'll have to try other menu items next time haha.
