First photo from the visit to Momiji Seolleung Branch

I booked Momiji Seolleung Branch to celebrate 600 days with my boyfriend :) Funny — well, sad-funny — thing is, it turned out it wasn't actually our 600th day T T

Every seat at Momiji is set up as a private room, and they said cake and candles were welcome, so it seemed like a great spot for an anniversary. The real anniversary was actually the following week, but — we still had a great time together after work. Let's get into the full review of this izakaya near Seolleung Station!

Where is Momiji Seolleung Branch, and what are its hours?

Momiji Seolleung Branch is near Seolleung Station, at 43 Samseong-ro 85-gil, 3rd floor Unit 1, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's open weekdays 11:20–24:00 and Saturdays 16:30–23:00, closed Sundays.

Since it's popular with office workers, it opens early and closes late on weekdays, while weekend hours start a bit later. Great for a light drink after work, and since it's all rooms, it's also nice for quiet conversation!

They said today's sashimi selection changes a little day to day. It's also the most popular item on the menu, so honestly we'd been looking forward to pairing today's sashimi with a beer even before we got there :)

A truly private room *..* What I loved most is that it's not just divided by a partition or curtain — each room has its own door, so you don't have to worry about the table next to you. I'm the type who prefers this kind of fully enclosed room, so this was my favorite part.

What we ordered at Momiji Seolleung Branch: Kirin Ichiban and Asahi first

You can't come to an izakaya without a beer 🍺 We ordered a Kirin Ichiban and an Asahi, one each. I'm a lightweight so I can't drink much, but my boyfriend likes beer, so we had a light drink together that day too.

A plate of half-order futomaki
Futomaki (half)

We ordered seasonal assorted sashimi (small), futomaki, and squid ink tempura, and the futomaki came out first. It arrived right as I took my first sip of beer — perfect timing :)

Is the half-size futomaki enough?

We ordered the futomaki (seaweed-wrapped sushi roll) as a half, and since we ordered other dishes too, I was glad we went with half — the full size would have been a bit much. The egg inside was especially moist and soft, which was delicious. The egg part ended up being what I remembered most about the futomaki!

Seasonal assorted sashimi: the small platter suits two

Ahh, finally the main dish! The seasonal assorted sashimi came out beautifully and neatly arranged, so it put us in a good mood just from the look of it. We're both big eaters, so we debated getting the medium size, but reviews said most pairs order small, so we did too.

In the end, the portion was just right! If we'd only had the sashimi it might have felt a bit lacking, but with the futomaki and tempura too, we ended up super full ...

Assortment of sashimi cuts
Fresh salmon sashimi

The sashimi quality was fresh and everything felt good overall. Assorted platters sometimes come with a piece or two that's a letdown, but here it felt like they packed in only the good stuff. The salmon was so, so good...

They also served simple side dishes like white kimchi and peas — a bite of white kimchi between bites of sashimi really cleaned the palate, so good!

The squid ink tempura is fried squid coated in its own ink — crispy and savory-salty, it was outstanding.

Dipping it fully into the tartar sauce mellowed out the saltiness a bit and made it even more delicious. It's totally my style, so I ended up eating a ton of the tempura.

So it turned out to be a fake 600-day date, but... whatever, we were happy so it's fine 🤍 The staff thoughtfully brought out a candle for us, which made the whole thing feel even more special and happy.

Verdict: good for anniversaries and after-work drinks alike

Momiji Seolleung Branch was a great choice for a couple's anniversary, letting us enjoy delicious sashimi and a variety of side dishes in a private room. Since every table is a room, it also seems like a good spot for company dinners or group gatherings, and a nice place for office workers near Seolleung to grab a casual beer after work. I think I'll come back again for another anniversary or a quiet meal :)
