Hawaiian burger with pineapple and bacon in Gwanak: Daily Fix

There was a yellow sign that kept catching my eye every time I passed through Sharosu-gil.

I'd stopped by once before, and the taste of that hefty Korean beef patty kept coming back to me, so this time I made a point of visiting again around dinnertime. On this visit I ordered both the double cheeseburger and the Hawaiian burger as sets. In this post, I'll share my review of Daily Fix Seoul National University Entrance.

Location, hours, and parking at Daily Fix Seoul National University Entrance

The address is 164 Gwanak-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, 1F 108, Daewoo Diosuperium 1st Complex, and it's open daily from 10:30 to 24:00.

It's about 161m from Exit 2 of Seoul National University Entrance Station, so under 5 minutes on foot is plenty. It's right at the entrance of Sharosu-gil, so it's a convenient stop before checking out nearby cafés or other shops after eating. Parking is available too — you can use the Daewoo Diosuperium building's own parking lot, which solved the parking headache that's always a bit of a worry whenever eating around Sharosu-gil.

The atmosphere and the semi-open seating

Walking in, I was greeted by an interior with a distinctly hip American diner vibe. Regular table seating continues toward the back, and on nice-weather days, they open the doors to create seating that feels almost semi-outdoor.

That spot happened to be open when we arrived, so we sat there, and eating with a cool breeze made the whole meal feel even better. Ordering was self-service via the tablet on the table, and drinks were refillable, so whenever I got thirsty from the salty burgers I could easily top up. Depending on where you sit, you can actually watch the patties sizzling on the grill, so there was plenty to look at while waiting.

Even at that awkward hour between lunch and dinner, there were quite a few customers inside — just like last time, it clearly remains a spot that in-the-know people flock to. There were couples on dates, as well as people eating comfortably alone, so the atmosphere suited all kinds of situations.

Double cheeseburger

The moment it arrived, the thickness was no joke. Two patties with cheese stacked in layers — you could tell just by looking that the juiciness would be considerable.

One bite in, and that rich, distinctive meaty flavor of the Korean beef patty I remembered was right there, with American and Swiss cheese melting together for a layered, savory taste. The soft brioche-style bun held up well under the weight of the patty and cheese, and the subtle sweetness of the caramelized onions balanced out the salty cheese nicely.

This is exactly the taste I remembered — a hefty, proper Korean beef patty, and it was really good.

Hawaiian burger

The first thing that caught my eye was a whole ring of pineapple sitting right on top.

The visual of housemade bacon and pineapple piled on a thick Korean beef patty was already mouthwatering.

With the first bite, the sweet-salty barbecue sauce hit first, followed by the bright juiciness of the pineapple mixing with the meat's juices — a combination that worked much better than I expected.

The bacon was salty and thick, giving a satisfying chew, and the balance between the sweetness of the pineapple and the sauce was memorable.

Since we ordered both burgers as sets, they came with a generous serving of fries, and pairing them with soda worked really well.

Final verdict

In a word, we very happily polished off two plates of hefty, rich handmade burgers.

The double cheeseburger still had that same rich combination of cheese and meaty juices, and the Hawaiian burger's balance of salty bacon and sweet pineapple was memorable too. The hefty, rich burgers made with daily-made Korean beef patties were plenty filling for a full meal. It's an easily walkable location from Seoul National University Entrance Station, and since they're open late, this is a great spot to visit when you're craving a hearty, substantial handmade burger.
