Yongsan tteokbokki restaurant right at 11am opening: Hyeonseonine

Today I'm bringing you an honest review of Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, a place famous for good food in Yongsan. I used to go often after seeing it on YouTube, and this was my Nth revisit after a long while. Here's my honest repeat-visitor review.

Where Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is and what the inside feels like

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a 3-minute walk from Sinyongsan Station Exit 6. Once you turn into the alley it's easy to find, and it's right by the subway.

If you go during peak hours you might have to wait, so timing your visit for opening time or an off-peak hour is kind of a pro tip...?

I went right at the 11am opening. But by the time I finished ordering and was heading out, it was already full. That said, turnover is fast and food comes out quickly, so you don't wait long!

Hyeonseonine menu prices and how the kiosk ordering works

At Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, you order and pay at the kiosk near the entrance. Just check if there's a seat available, then order.

I've tried the instant-style tteokbokki here before too, but personally the combo set is the tastiest!

After ordering, I grabbed a few things from the self-serve bar.

Grabbed some salt and soy sauce, and pickled radish is a must-have ^-^

What comes in the 26,000 won Hyeonseonine combo set

The Hyeonseonine combo set is 26,000 won. It's a combo where you can eat everything at once — tteokbokki, sundae, gimbap, fish cake, and fritters — and it's genuinely good value and genuinely tasty!

How spicy is the medium-spice tteokbokki?

Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki comes with plenty of broth and wheat rice cakes, which is exactly my type. You can choose your spice level; I went with medium. Medium spice is about as hot as Shin Ramyun.

It's loaded with fish cake and rice cakes, and the broth isn't too sharp, so it's easy to scoop up spoonful after spoonful.

You get 3 fish cake skewers, with fried tofu and rice cake mixed in. It's not the super-soft style of fish cake, more slightly chewy.

The rice cake bits floating in the fish cake broth ~.~ these looked like rice-based rice cakes!

4 pieces of mini gimbap

The mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) comes as 4 pieces, cut in half for easy eating. It's mini-sized, but the filling inside is as packed as a regular gimbap.

Dipping it in the tteokbokki sauce is art. I'm a total rice-lover, so when I eat this kind of bunsik I love having gimbap alongside it, and this place checks every box.

Hyeonseonine sundae, filled with liver only

The sundae (blood sausage) is generous too! You can choose your organ meat, and I asked for liver only.

That crumbly liver is so good..! It came thick-cut and generous. And considering today's prices, all of this for around 20,000-something won — isn't that genuinely great value? It's enough to fill up 2-3 people!

The 4 kinds of fritters

Lastly, the fritters. You can't choose the type — they come as a fixed set. I think it was kimmari (seaweed noodle roll), mandu (dumpling), vegetable, and sweet potato.

You know how good it is to drench the vegetable fritter in the sauce until it goes soft, right?

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch has been featured on YouTube so many times, and once you eat here, you get why. It's not a flashy or unique flavor, but it's the kind of solid, nostalgic taste that's honestly hard to find these days.
