Sokcho snow crab house B course for two with mul-hoe: Hanggu Hwareo
In short
Hanggu Hwareo is an ocean-view snow crab and live fish restaurant in Building S of the Daepo Harbor fish market in Sokcho, Gangwon. The bakdal snow crab B course for two brought squid sashimi, grilled flounder and sushi as sukidashi starters, then mul-hoe (cold raw fish soup), live fish sashimi, freshly steamed bakdal snow crab, crab roe fried rice and spicy fish stew, with an especially high meat yield in the crab. With the Daepo Harbor night view from the table, Hanggu Hwareo is worth recommending as a date spot.

A lot of you are probably planning a Sokcho trip for the weekend or a holiday! I went to Sokcho over the weekend myself.
While looking for a snow crab place in Sokcho, I heard there was an ocean-view crab spot in Daepo Harbor, so I ran straight over! Here's my properly cooked-up review after eating the bakdal snow crab course for two.
Where is Hanggu Hwareo, and what are the hours and parking?
Hanggu Hwareo (항구활어) is at 1F, 59 Daepohang-huimang-gil, Daepohang Fish Market Building S, Unit 9, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea. Hours are weekdays 11:30am to midnight, and Friday to Sunday it stays open until 4am with last order at 2am. For parking, use Daepo Harbor Parking Lot 2 — they give you a 30-minute parking voucher.

This is Hanggu Hwareo, located in Sokcho's Daepo Harbor. It's really close if you're staying at Lotte Resort, Ramada Resort, or Cassia Hotel! For parking, I'd recommend using the public lot.

Looking at Hanggu Hwareo's fish tanks, they were packed with fresh crab and live fish, which made me trust the place even more! The staff were super friendly too.

What are the ocean-view seats at Daepo Harbor like?
Hanggu Hwareo connects to the fish market on one side and to Daepo Harbor on the other, so the breezy view is really nice!

You can enjoy crab with an ocean view looking out at Daepo Harbor! The atmosphere is great, so I'd recommend it for a date too!

Ordering the bakdal snow crab course for two: the sukidashi spread
This is Hanggu Hwareo's menu. From crab courses to seasonal assorted sashimi, you can taste all sorts of fresh catches! I liked that the crab course included live fish sashimi and spicy fish stew all in one!

I ordered the bakdal snow crab course for two — supposedly bigger and sweeter than regular snow crab. Just the sukisidashi alone came out to this much...

Abalone, squid, and sea cucumber all came out, and it was so touching that squid sashimi was included as standard... it was so fresh it was basically still wriggling!!!!!!

Grilled flounder, takoyaki, and sushi came out too. Even the grilled fish was properly done. The sukisidashi alone was enough to make you full.

Mul-hoe and live fish sashimi: three meals in one sitting
The bakdal crab course includes mul-hoe (cold raw fish soup) too!!! The tangy mul-hoe was so good, and when I put the squid sashimi into this broth it instantly became squid mul-hoe... so in one go I got sashimi, mul-hoe, and crab, which meant I basically ate three meals in one visit lolllllllll

Fresh live fish sashimi came out too. Even the halibut fin was properly served!!! I thought the sashimi was just there for show, but it was so fresh and delicious. This one's also great on top of sushi!

How much meat is in the bakdal snow crab?
While we were eating the sukisidashi and sashimi, the bakdal snow crab arrived. It comes out piping hot, freshly steamed, and already cleaned so you can just snap it apart and eat it by hand!

The meat yield is insane. I've genuinely never seen a crab this packed. It's not just the thick parts that are full of meat — even the flat legs were completely packed!!!

Even the underside of the claw legs was this packed with meat. Wherever you cut, it's all crab meat, so I said the yield was insane like five hundred times;;;

There's basically no empty space left inside the legs, to the point it's hard to even pick out the meat;;;;;; No exaggeration, I ate at six and was still full until 1am. Two big-eating guys would be stuffed too.

Finishing with crab roe fried rice and spicy fish stew
On top of all that, crab roe fried rice too... how much roe do you need to get fried rice this green lol they even put crab meat in it, so it definitely looks like they made it with the shells I'd finished eating from.

I was genuinely about to burst from being so full, and then the spicy fish stew came out as the finale... eating it was a really nice way to wrap things up, but I was too full so I just drank the broth and left... so so disappointing, since it's the kind of flavor that could take down two bowls of rice.

Once night fell, the fountain at Daepo Harbor came on too, and there was the fun of watching the night view!! The atmosphere was great and the space was comfortable, so I could eat happily. If you're looking for a crab course at Daepo Harbor, I recommend this place!
