When you're traveling, there's always at least one meal where gukbap (Korean soup with rice) is just the easiest and most filling option, right? On a Changwon trip I was craving something hot and hearty, so I stopped by Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap, a pork soup spot in Bukmyeon 🤤💛. There's a big private parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so it was easy to visit by car.

Inside Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap: atmosphere and seating

The exterior really gave off that classic gukbap-restaurant feel, and stepping inside, the interior was just as clean and tidy in that same style. Best of all, there were plenty of spacious tables, so it looked like a good place to visit with family or in a bigger group.

The menu was pretty varied, ranging from dwaeji gukbap to lean meat gukbap, sundae gukbap, offal gukbap, suyuk baekban, and dumplings. It was nice being able to pick according to your taste, and I went with suyuk baekban and sundae gukbap ~~

Side dishes and the self-serve corner

Not long after ordering, the side dishes were set down first — lettuce, pickled onion, diced radish kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, chives, thin noodles, vegetables, and more, mostly things that pair well with gukbap 👍

What really stood out was the house-made gangdoenjang — it smelled so savory that it made me crave rice on its own. Just piling rice and gangdoenjang onto a lettuce leaf and wrapping it up — ah, so good. And whenever you wanted more side dishes, there was a self-serve corner where you could just help yourself to as much as you needed!!

What I ordered

How was the suyuk baekban (boiled pork platter with rice)?

Once the dishes came out, the table was completely full 🤤💛. The suyuk baekban arrived with a milky broth holding a bit of meat and scallion, while the boiled pork itself came separately in a bowl that kept it warm. I really liked that the meat stayed hot instead of cooling down.

I like eating only the lean cuts, so I asked for lean meat, and they gave me exactly the cuts I like — very satisfying. The meat was mild and tender enough to eat plain, and paired with pickled radish it had a whole different flavor.

Wrapping the meat and side dishes together in lettuce was also delicious — not too intense, just clean and mild, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. If you're looking for a Changwon Bukmyeon pork soup restaurant, this kind of place that nails the basics is exactly what comes to mind.

What comes with the sundae gukbap, and how to eat it

The sundae gukbap had glass-noodle vegetable sundae (Korean blood sausage) along with lean meat. I tasted the milky broth first, then loosened up some thin noodles and ate them together.

After eating some of the soup, I added chives and dadagi (spicy seasoning paste) — it started off mild, but adding those made the flavor richer, so it was easy to adjust to my taste. I also had it with the kimchi and diced radish kimchi that are essential with gukbap. With hot broth and rice, my hungry stomach from the Changwon trip was completely filled up.

Dumplings and an icy cold coffee to finish

Lastly, I ordered dumplings to go with it, which was a nice addition for when just gukbap alone feels like it's not quite enough. With such a varied menu and plenty of seating, Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap also seemed like a good spot for family meals or group dining.

On your way out, be sure to try the iced coffee to finish ..!☕️🤎 It tastes like a mix coffee full of shaved ice, and even I, someone who only ever orders iced Americanos, was completely won over haha. If you're heading toward Bukmyeon or looking for a filling lunch nearby, this Changwon Bukmyeon pork soup restaurant is worth a stop. It's also a great place to visit whenever you're craving a hot bowl of gukbap in the middle of a trip, just like I was :)
