Gwanggyo Lake Park side dish shop: holiday pre-orders at Gukaechan
In short
Gukaechan Banchan Gwanggyo Main Store is a Korean side dish (banchan) shop in the Iflex 138-dong building near Gwanggyo Lake Park in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Ahead of the holiday, Gukaechan was taking pre-orders for jeon (savory pancakes), namul (seasoned vegetables) and kimchi, and the writer took home spicy jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried pork), mu saengchae (radish salad) and eolgari yeolmu muchim (young radish greens salad) to set a full table with miyeok guk (seaweed soup). Free underground parking in the building makes Gukaechan an easy stop by car.

Where is Gukaechan Gwanggyo Main Store, and where do you park?
Gukaechan Banchan Gwanggyo Main Store is a side dish shop inside the Iflex 138-dong building near Gwanggyo Lake Park. It's just behind Gwanggyo L-Port, so it was really easy to find!

The accessibility was so good it was perfect for popping in for a quick shop! There's also plenty of free parking space in the building's basement, so it's convenient if you're driving haha.
Holiday food pre-orders: jeon, namul and kimchi

Since the holiday was coming up, Gukaechan was already taking pre-orders for holiday food! There was clear guidance for preparing jeon, namul, various kimchi and other dishes in advance. It felt like you could take a huge load off your mind about labor-intensive holiday cooking here — whoa. Checking ahead and preparing early like this seems like it would make setting a holiday table so much easier!
Inside Gukaechan: the main hot side dishes

Once inside, the store was so clean and well-kept! In the kitchen space in the back, staff were busy making new side dishes nonstop. Being able to actually see the hygiene conditions like this these days made me trust the place a lot more! It felt like a place where anyone — solo office workers, newlyweds, or families with kids — could shop with peace of mind.

Inside the store there was a whole range of main dishes that looked delicious just to look at! From bossam (boiled pork) and jeyuk bokkeum to grilled fish and jeon, everything was freshly made and you could feel the warmth. Everything was so neatly arranged that I spent a while deciding what to pick! In the end I picked up the spicy jeyuk bokkeug that appealed to me most.
The everyday banchan, kimchi and soup counters

Besides the main dishes, there were tons of side dishes and soups to pair with them! There was kimchi to choose from by type, and crunchy mu saengchae and oisobagi (stuffed cucumber kimchi) caught my eye too. I was in the mood for something sweet and tangy to perk up my appetite, and I hadn't had mu saengchae in a while, so I grabbed it right away! There were so many side dishes that just browsing was fun in itself!
The wall shelves and display cases were packed edge to edge with fresh namul and all kinds of side dishes! Looking closely, you could see just how fresh the ingredients were — everything looked so clean. The seasoning wasn't overpowering either, made in a light, mild way that felt like you could eat it every day without getting tired of it! There were plenty of hearty side dishes that the whole family could happily finish off at the table.
Namul sets and eolgari yeolmu muchim at Gukaechan

There was a well put-together namul set good for mixing into bibimbap, plus individual namul you could choose by type! Among all the vivid green vegetables, the eolgari yeolmu muchim looked especially fresh and tasty, so I put that in my basket too. Made with fresh seasonal ingredients, it looked so good it was mouthwatering just to see! Trimming and seasoning this at home takes a lot of effort, so it was really nice to be able to buy it this easily haha.
The dried side dish corner

There was a really varied selection of dried side dishes, great for keeping around and eating over time! Just for myeolchi bokkeum (stir-fried dried anchovies) alone, there was a whole breakdown by seasoning — soy sauce style, spicy style — so you could pick based on your preference. They were also sorted by size, from tiny anchovies to larger ones, so it was easy to choose to your taste! Dried side dishes like these are great to stock in the fridge — I feel like they're an absolute essential for anyone running a household.
Setting a full table at home with Gukaechan side dishes
Here's a look at the jeyuk bokkeum and assorted side dishes I picked out so carefully! Everything was packed so neatly that nothing spilled or leaked on the way home! Just looking at it made me feel like I could easily polish off a whole bowl of rice — such a hearty spread. Seeing all these carefully made dishes made me want to dig in right away haha.

Served together with the miyeok guk I'd already prepared at home, it made for a perfect meal! I also mixed the jeyuk bokkeum with a generous scoop of the mu saengchae I'd bought and turned it into a bibimbap, and it was seriously amazing! You could taste the deep, skilled hand behind every dish, and I immediately understood why everyone comes here. It's a place with both a solid, satisfying selection and great taste, so I think I'll be coming back often! If you're looking for a side dish shop in Gwanggyo that's full of care and flavor, I really recommend Gukaechan!
