Regulars on my blog probably already know how much I love Café Diaz. I'm a huge fan of cakes loaded with fresh fruit, so this is already my Nth visit here. Whenever I go to Galleria Gwanggyo, it's one of those places I just can't walk past — and this time the seasonal fruit cakes were so good I had to write about them.

This time I went with the fig cake slice and the peach cake slice! Both fig and peach are fruits you can enjoy from summer into early fall, and since the season would soon be over, they somehow tasted even better than usual.

How do Café Diaz fresh fruit cakes change with the season?

The main reason I keep coming back to Café Diaz is definitely the fresh fruit cakes. Every visit, I end up staring at the display case full of different cakes for ages — and I love that the fruit changes with the season. Strawberries when they're in season, mixed fruit year-round, and peach or fig when they're at their best — there's always something new to pick, which makes every visit fun.

This time, the fig cake caught my eye the moment I looked at the case. I figured if I didn't get it now I'd have to wait a long while, so I picked the fig cake slice first, then added a peach cake slice too, since it's easy to share with kids.

Fig cake slice: the tastiest pick of this Café Diaz visit

Personally, the fig cake slice was the most memorable part of this visit. Maybe because figs are in peak season right now, the fruit itself was really soft and sweet. The fig's signature little pop-in-your-mouth texture was still there, and paired with the moist cake sheets and soft whipped cream, the combination was excellent. Figs can taste a bit bland if underripe, or lose their texture if overripe, but the ones I had this day were ripened just right, which made it even more satisfying. One reason I love Café Diaz's cakes is that the cream isn't overly sweet, so it never overpowers the fruit.

It's not a cake where all you taste is whipped cream — you get the sweetness and brightness of the fruit too, which really suits my taste for fresh fruit cakes. Every bite felt generously packed with fig, and knowing the season was almost over made me savor it even more slowly. If I had to pick just one of the two cakes I had this time to eat again, I'd go with the fig.

Peach cake slice: the easy choice for kids at Café Diaz

The peach cake slice was just as good as I'd hoped. The combination of sweet peach and soft whipped cream made it an easy one to share with kids. While the fig cake was soft and subtly sweet, the peach felt a bit brighter and more refreshing. The peach and cream were layered nicely between the moist cake sheets, making it easy to eat bite by bite, and since it's fruit-based, it felt noticeably lighter than a regular whipped cream cake.

One nice thing about Café Diaz is that they sell cakes by the slice, so you can pick a few different flavors depending on your mood. On days when committing to a whole cake feels like too much, picking two or three slices to share is a great way to try a variety of flavors.

Craving dessert at Galleria Gwanggyo in Suwon?

Café Diaz has become such a familiar place that coffee and cake now automatically make me think of it. I've lost count of how many times I've visited, but since the fruit cakes change with the season, it never feels repetitive. This time in particular, having fig and peach cakes — fruits you can only enjoy for a limited window — made it extra satisfying.

The peach cake slice was bright and delicious too, but my pick of the day was still the fig cake slice. It's peak fig season, so the fruit's natural sweetness really came through, and the harmony with the soft whipped cream was excellent. Since this seasonal item will disappear soon, I already want to go back for one more.
