'Jukrim' means bamboo forest, symbolizing an honest heart and genuine hand-cooked flavor toward guests. If even the name carries such good meaning, imagine the care that goes into the food itself 🥰

Why Jukrim works for a group dinner: group seating and white charcoal

Among Gwangalli pork restaurants, this one is great for group dinners, thanks to the spacious, comfortable table layout and the quick, friendly grilling service. It's set up well for group visits, and reservations are possible in advance for an easy, relaxed dining experience!

True to a popular Gwangalli spot, waitlisting via Catch Table is also available.

Baby chairs and bibs are available, and each table comes with clean utensils and tissues.

The grill plate has a somewhat unusual shape. Charcoal goes in the center — white charcoal made from Jirisan oak, which reportedly performs even better than regular charcoal. It's optimized for locking in juices and drawing out aroma, making for high-quality grilling!

At this Gwangalli pork restaurant, top-grade Spanish Iberico is reportedly dry-aged for over 4 weeks — a method that concentrates the meat's aroma and flavor for a rich, savory taste. They also carry top-grade Korean fresh pork belly and neck, so there's plenty of choice. The side menu is quite varied too, and the chadol soybean paste rice and kimchi noodle soup are especially famous. The soybean paste stew was pleasantly spicy too — maybe that's why the rice dish practically calls for a drink? 😋

The 450g Jukrim Handon Set: an honest review

Table setting with the ordered Jukrim Handon Set

What I ordered was the Jukrim Handon Set (pork belly 250g + pork neck 200g + soybean paste stew) for ₩49,000.

Side dishes served in round bowls
Bean sprouts, pickles, and white kimchi side dishes
Five sauces including wasabi, salted shrimp, and salt
Plate of fresh pork belly 250g and pork neck 200g

The side dishes come out looking really upscale and generous. The round bowls give it a neater feel too. Sides include bean sprouts, pickles, and white kimchi; sauces include wasabi, salted shrimp, soybean paste, salt, and scallion sauce. The truly good pork restaurants always have this kind of variety in sides and sauces, and mixing them up made the meal so much fun.

My favorite sauces were the melljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) and the garlic oil sauce. The staff put them right on the grill plate for you — the sizzling garlic sauce adds a savory aroma, and meat dipped deep in melljeot then lightly grilled gets packed with umami.

Fresh pork belly 250g + fresh pork neck 200g + vegetable garnish. The marbling looked gorgeous, probably thanks to the top-grade Korean pork 😋

They rub fat over the grill plate first, then lay all the meat on at once. 450g is just the right amount for two, and having it all go on the grill together kept the eating flow smooth!

They grill the meat at just the right timing, so the juices stay locked in and the doneness is perfect — this Gwangalli pork restaurant nails it.

Cleansing the palate a bit with the soybean paste stew. It's got a subtle spicy kick — not overdone, which I liked. Especially good with rice, the kind of flavor that makes you want more.

Fully grilled pork moved to the edge of the grill plate

Finished meat gets moved to the edge of the grill, away from direct charcoal heat but still kept warm. Thanks to that, I never had a single bite of cold meat 😋

The first bite has to be with just salt, plain and simple! The pork neck held its juices while keeping a lively texture — surprising. You could taste the characteristic meatiness without any toughness. Pork really is best grilled by a pro ㅜㅜ

Melt jeot, scallion sauce, salted seafood: how to combine the five sauces

This is the melljeot-grilled meat I mentioned earlier. Meat dipped deep in melljeot and lightly grilled loses its fishy edge and soaks up pure umami. Add a dab of wasabi on top and you get a swirl of salty umami and sharp bite in your mouth — haha. Of all the pork sauce combos I've tried, this is the best of the best.

Grilled pork piece topped with salted shrimp

Also tried a bit of salted shrimp on top. Seasoning with salted shrimp instead of plain salt gives an explosion of flavor.

Next up after the pork neck, they grill the belly too — it's honestly a pretty grilling show.

Pork belly grilling side by side on the plate

I ate the pork belly dipped in scallion sauce. Even with a generous dip it wasn't salty — the scallion aroma and savory sauce flavor really elevated the quality of the meat. The meat's great, but the sauces are all GOAT at Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui!

Wrap greens at Jukrim: you have to ask

Lettuce wraps aren't served by default, so you have to ask separately. Since there are so many pickles that taste great wrapped up, I'd say wraps are basically a must! The myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves) in particular were delicious, so I always wrapped it in with the meat.

I'd rank the rice here #1 among Gwangalli pork restaurants... it's so sticky and fresh it feels like it was just made in a pot. My pick: pile on melljeot-grilled pork for one bite 🤤

Final spread with grilled vegetables and a bowl of rice

You even get to enjoy grilled vegetables alongside, which made it feel almost like a pork BBQ buffet — a solid Gwangalli spot. Getting to eat warm meat all the way to the end made the meal even better.

Final verdict on Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui

  • ✅ Juicy fresh pork belly and neck grilled to keep the meat's juices and aroma
  • ✅ A wide range of sauce combos, from melljeot to garlic oil sauce to scallion sauce
  • ✅ Spacious, comfortable tables and group seating great for group dinners
  • ✅ Staff grill the meat for you, making for an easy, relaxed meal

From the pork belly and neck to the varied sides, this was a great place to enjoy a meal with a group. The staff-grilled belly and neck were especially good, and with spacious group seating, I'd recommend Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui to anyone looking for a group dinner or gathering spot in Gwangalli 😋
