Spicy mushroom kalguksu for three, mother and sister night: Deungchon
In short
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch is a shabu kalguksu restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gran Passage Green Zone in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Visiting on a Thursday around 7:30pm with her mom and sister, the writer ordered three servings of spicy mushroom kalguksu with added shabu meat, then finished it off with dumpling noodles, kalguksu noodles, and fried rice. The spicy broth soaked into the water dropwort and mung bean sprouts perfectly, and the crispy scorched fried rice at the end made it a satisfying meal for three.

On a Thursday evening, trying to figure out what to eat with my mom and sister, I suddenly craved Deungchon Kalguksu again after a long time~

I was craving spicy broth and kept thinking about the Deungchon Kalguksu I'd had before. So I searched for a Deungchon Kalguksu in Dongtan and ended up at the Gran Passage branch!

We ordered three servings of spicy mushroom kalguksu and added shabu meat on top — all three of us kept saying it was so good throughout dinner~
How's the parking and waiting?
Deungchon Kalguksu is on the 2nd floor of Gran Passage Green Zone!!

There were plenty of parking spaces and 3 hours of parking support, so it felt pretty generous~ If you have time after the meal, a walk around Dongtan Lake Park would be nice too~

We visited on a weekday evening so we got seated without any wait, but they said if it's busy, you just enter your phone number on the tablet at the store entrance and wait for your turn.
What we ordered, three of us at 7:30pm on a weekday

We arrived at Deungchon Kalguksu Gran Passage branch around 7:30pm on a Thursday evening.

With my mom and sister, three of us, we ordered three servings of spicy mushroom kalguksu and added shabu meat too.

Ordering this way, dumpling noodles, kalguksu noodles, and fried rice all came out too, so there ended up being more food than I expected.
At first I thought three servings would be plenty, but once we ate through the shabu-shabu, the kalguksu, and the fried rice, we were completely stuffed~
The spicy mushroom kalguksu broth was so rich it made everything better
When you think of Deungchon Kalguksu, the spicy broth is the first thing that comes to mind, right.
We cooked water dropwort and mung bean sprouts in the broth, and once the spicy broth flavor soaked into the vegetables, they were unbelievably good.

Cooking the water dropwort and sprouts thoroughly in the broth kept a crisp texture while still soaking in that spicy broth flavor.
Maybe because it had been a while, my mom and sister both said it was delicious the moment they tasted it haha. The broth was spicy and rich, and the table next to us was drinking soju with theirs. We thought about having some too, but we'd driven, so sadly we couldn't drink.
Adding the kalguksu noodles changes the shabu-shabu broth again
After eating a good amount of the shabu meat and vegetables, we added the kalguksu noodles.

Before adding the noodles, the broth had a clean vegetable-stock feel with flavor from the vegetables added in, but once the kalguksu went in, the broth got a bit thicker.

The spicy broth flavor soaked well into the noodles, so I just kept picking up my chopsticks. Eating the dumpling noodles alongside, we were pretty full by this point.
Still, there's no giving up on the fried rice at the end!!
And of course, the finale is scorched fried rice
Fried rice is my favorite part of Deungchon Kalguksu~ I like the slightly scorched bits more than plain moist fried rice, so I didn't eat it right away — I waited a bit.
I waited until the bottom got slightly scorched, then scraped it up to eat — the nutty, crispy scorched bits made it so much better. My mom and sister, despite saying they were full, kept eating the fried rice too haha.
In the end, the three of us women really finished three servings completely. Before eating I thought three servings would be plenty, but between the shabu meat, vegetables, dumplings, kalguksu, and fried rice, I felt like I was going to burst haha.
Looking for a shabu-shabu spot in Hwaseong?
It had been a while since I ate Deungchon Kalguksu with my mom and sister, and all three of us said it was delicious — we had such a good dinner~

At Deungchon Kalguksu you eat the shabu meat and vegetables first, then move on to the kalguksu and fried rice in the spicy broth, so it makes for a hearty full meal~

Since we'd driven, I found myself wishing we could have soju like the table next to us — the spicy broth went that well with it. Eating with my mom and sister after a while apart made it taste even better haha.
Next time I should bring my boyfriend, who loves shabu-shabu, along too~
