Hwajeong-dong gukbap restaurant past the 2pm sundae cutoff: Pyeongando
In short
Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch is a 24-hour gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant near the main gate of Deogyang-gu Office in Hwajeong-dong, Goyang. Arriving after 2pm with an old friend meant missing the unlimited sundae (Korean blood sausage) refill window, which runs 11:30–14:00 and 17:30–20:00, but the wide menu of sundae-guk, gamjatang, seolleongtang, yukgaejang and chogye naengmyeon still made a filling meal. If sundae is the reason you go, plan around the refill hours and the times fresh head meat comes out.

Good morning! Starting the day with a big smile, smile, smile — this is Smile Day. Today I want to share the story of meeting an old friend for the first time in a while and having a warm, filling sundae-guk set meal at Pyeongando Restaurant, right in front of Deogyang-gu Office in Hwajeong-dong, Goyang.
The place I visited is Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch, near Hwajeong Station and Deogyang-gu Office. What caught my eye right away was the menu range — from sundae-guk to gamjatang, seolleongtang, yukgaejang, and even naengmyeon — plus the fact that at certain hours you can eat as much sundae as you like.

First impressions inside the Hwajeong-dong restaurant
Walking around Hwajeong-dong, there are so many restaurants. So for me, taste matters, but so does whether it's a place I can comfortably eat a meal.
The first thing I noticed arriving at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch was the big signboard: 'Pyeongando Restaurant Premium Sundae-guk & Gamjatang.' Outside, large photos of chogye mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in chilled vinegary broth) and chogye bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed version) were displayed, so even a first-time visitor could easily tell what kind of food they serve.

When you think 'gukbap place,' you might picture somewhere old and a bit dim, but my impression here was closer to a relatively clean, comfortable gukbap restaurant. It seemed like a good spot for a solo meal on a day you're craving hot broth, and equally good for a filling family meal.

When is the unlimited sundae refill? 11:30–14:00 and 17:30–20:00
What I found interesting at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch was the sundae unlimited refill sign. The photo showed the exact available hours.
- 11:30am–2:00pm
- 5:30pm–8:00pm
During these hours, sundae is served unlimited. Recent visitor reviews confirm the same operating hours.
We didn't know about the sundae refill and ended up visiting after 2pm, which was a real shame. Next time, I promised the restaurant manager I'd come back to try the basic sundae-guk meal along with the unlimited sundae refill.
For sundae lovers, this is quite a welcome perk. That said, rather than piling your plate high from the start just because it's 'unlimited,' it's better to take what you'll actually eat and grab more if you need it. Finishing your food without waste, and enjoying it, makes for the best meal anyway.

More than sundae-guk: the full menu at Pyeongando
Because of the name Pyeongando Restaurant, I first assumed it was mainly a sundae-guk place, but looking at the menu, the range of choices was pretty wide. Beyond sundae-guk, there's seolleongtang, yukgaejang, ox head gukbap, bone soup (ppyeo-haejangguk), gamjatang and hot pots, and seasonal chogye mul-naengmyeon and chogye bibim-naengmyeon stood out too.
So I thought it would be fairly easy for a family with different tastes to each pick something they like when going together. One person can have hot gukbap, another spicy yukgaejang, and another a cool bowl of naengmyeon with a plate of dumplings — plenty of variety to choose from.

The older I get, the more I find myself craving food that's warm and filling even for a single meal, and there are days when a bowl of gukbap like this is exactly what comes to mind. Especially these days, as mornings and evenings turn a little cooler, a hot bowl of soup feels even more welcome.

What time does fresh head meat come out?
Here's another tip. Knowing when the freshly boiled pyeonyuk (head meat) is served each day means you can time your visit for a happier meal ✅. It's served at 11:00am, 1:00pm, 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
What I thought after eating at Pyeongando Restaurant
I don't want to just write 'this is the best!' when introducing a restaurant. From my actual visit, the strengths I felt at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch were accessibility, menu variety, 24-hour operation, and the fun of the sundae unlimited refill.
Being near Hwajeong Station makes it easy to reach by public transit, and being near Deogyang-gu Office makes it easy to describe the location. Above all, being a 24-hour restaurant feels like a real advantage when you've missed mealtime or just need a warm meal a bit later than usual.

And when I visit a restaurant, I don't just look at the food. 'Did I get to eat comfortably here?' — that matters to me too. In that sense, Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch left me with the impression of somewhere you can walk in without hesitation and have a filling, satisfying meal.

Especially if you love sundae, it's worth timing your visit to the unlimited refill hours. After all, the joy of eating well is one of the happinesses we can't leave out of life. Eat well, laugh a lot, and stay healthy today too! Today is the best day of my life.
