Jeonju Gaekri-dan-gil dining bar for truffle sujebi date night: Adam

In short

Adam is a Western-style dining bar on Gaekri-dan-gil, the Gaeksa area of Jeonju, known as a date and blind-date spot for its quiet music and soft lighting. This dinner at Adam was truffle sujebi (hand-torn dough soup), Korean pork belly steak and grilled cabbage, served with pre-meal bread, and wrapping the pork belly steak in the grilled cabbage was the best bite of the night. The food takes a while to arrive at Adam, but it is worth the wait.

I visited Adam, a Western dining bar on Jeonju's Gaekri-dan-gil. I used to go to Gaeksa a lot but had no idea Adam existed there. I found it while searching for good restaurants near Gaeksa — apparently the vibe is great and the food is too, so I went right away.

The menu was posted outside the store, so it was nice to check it out before going in.

Date-night atmosphere at Adam and how to order

Everyone says this place is famous for its atmosphere, and once I walked in I totally got why — perfect for a date. With quiet music playing and such a nice mood, I feel like blind dates would go well here haha.

Before the meal, they bring out a pretzel and bread. The bread was so good — warm and crisp, and dipping it in the balsamic sauce they served alongside was amazing.

Is Adam's grilled cabbage worth ordering?

Adam's grilled cabbage is under ₩10,000, and I want to say it's a must-order. It came out first. I'd read blogs before visiting that all said the same thing — if you go to Adam on Gaekri-dan-gil, order the grilled cabbage, no question. So I got curious and tried it, and I'm telling you all: order it, no question.

Cooked just right, with a tangy sweet sauce that goes perfectly with the cabbage. I don't usually like this kind of vegetable, but it was exactly my taste and I devoured it by myself. It's even cheap, under ₩10,000. Honestly, after finishing the cabbage I was already getting a bit full. Maybe if I just ate this every day I'd actually lose weight haha.

What does the truffle sujebi taste like?

Adam's truffle sujebi felt like eating sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) with an intensely rich cream aroma. They said it's made by loading in duxelles and truffle — a mushroom, truffle, and cream sujebi. Maybe that's why it didn't taste artificial at all, but really natural. The dough was also nice and chewy, pairing well with the cream. Adam also sells wine, and this dish would go great with a glass.

Korean pork belly steak instead of sirloin: a good choice?

Adam's Korean pork belly steak is premium pork belly sous-vide for 20 hours then grilled, served with a miso sauce. When the pork belly steak I'd been waiting for finally arrived, I let out an actual "wow" the moment I saw it. Tasting it, the meat just melted, so tender — it was the last dish to arrive, and after eating it I understood exactly why it took the longest. I'd debated ordering the sirloin steak instead but went with the pork belly steak, and I'm glad I did. The portion was bigger than expected too.

The potatoes served alongside were sweet too, and paired really well with the pork belly steak.

Wrapping the pork belly steak in grilled cabbage

We tried wrapping the pork belly steak in the grilled cabbage we'd ordered together, and honestly — you have to eat it this way. It's an unbeatable combination. The food does take a while to come out, but it's a flavor worth the wait.

I visited through a sponsored campaign, but it was exactly my kind of place, so I think I'll keep coming back on my own. The atmosphere was great, the food was great, and even the owner was kind and friendly, so it was a happy time overall. If you're looking for a good restaurant, a date spot, or a date course around Gaeksa and Gaekri-dan-gil, I highly recommend Adam.
