Ordering sushi by the piece in Cheonan Buldang-dong: Ganghan Sushi

I visited Ganghan Sushi, the famous Buldang-dong sushi spot! This is already my third visit, that's how well-known this Cheonan sushi restaurant is, haha. I've always ordered the set menus before, but this time I ordered à la carte instead. Let me walk you through the pieces I'd recommend!

Where is Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch?

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch is located at 111, 67-12 Buldang21-ro, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam, right in the heart of Sinbuldang. There's parking space inside, so it's convenient if you're driving too.

It's on the main street of Sinbuldang so it was easy to find. You can check the menu outside before going in, which made things even easier.

Inside Ganghan Sushi: seating and how long you wait

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch doesn't have a lot of seats inside, so if you're coming as a group I'd recommend booking ahead! I got there a bit after 2pm and there was already a wait!

Definitely lives up to its reputation as a Buldang-dong go-to, haha.

There's also a review event going on! Pay 500 won and get a Coke! Everyone should join in, haha. You can also swap the Coke for sushi instead! There are various options in the review event, so just pick whatever suits you!

Croquette, udon and broth included with any sushi order

When you order sushi at Ganghan Sushi, croquette, udon and broth come as standard.

Both the udon and croquette are solid enough to work as a light bite before the sushi arrives. The croquette was properly crispy outside, tender inside! Eating it with the cabbage underneath made it even better. It was a bit chilly that day, so the piping hot udon really warmed me up, haha.

Flounder, squid and monkfish liver with sweet shrimp

On this visit to Ganghan Sushi, instead of a set I ordered flounder, squid, and monkfish liver sweet shrimp à la carte. I started with the squid.

It had a lovely sweetness and was really delicious, haha.

I love sweet shrimp, so I ordered two menu items with it. Topped with monkfish liver and uni, they tasted even more luxurious, haha. The sweet shrimp had a lovely sweetness that made these very enjoyable to eat. The savory richness of the monkfish liver especially paired well with the sweet shrimp! Uni was good too, but personally I liked the monkfish liver combo even more, haha.

Beef tartare gamtae (seaweed) sushi

Ganghan Sushi's beef tartare gimtae (roasted seaweed) sushi! Beef tartare and gimtae — need I say more, they're such a well-matched combo... the tender beef tartare and the fragrant gimtae went together really nicely.

The colors are beautiful, and when you actually eat it, the taste is top-tier too, matching the looks, haha.

Salmon sushi and aged-kimchi flounder

I also ordered salmon sushi, haha. The salmon here is really good, haha. It's topped with onion and salmon sauce, and eating them together worked really well.

Aged kimchi + flounder — you know this combo needs no explanation, right? A little wasabi on top and one bite in, it was so good. The flounder was chewy and just clung to your palate, haha.

How long is parking free at Ganghan Sushi?

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch has parking available too! Before you leave, just self-register at the machine by the door. Up to 2 hours is available, which is really nice.

I also had the mint I found at the table, haha. They keep these mint candies at every table. Isn't that such a thoughtful touch, seriously.

Is Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch worth it?

Salmon, flounder, sweet shrimp, beef tartare sushi — all satisfying at this Buldang-dong favorite, Ganghan Sushi! I've already visited three times, that's how much of a regular Buldang-dong sushi spot this is for me. Just keep in mind the interior is small so there can be a wait — if you're visiting as a group, I'd recommend booking ahead, haha.
