Pyeongtaek café for a weekend date: yellow cheese financier, Cafe
In short
Cafe Pomun is a standalone dessert café in Icheung-dong, Pyeongtaek, near International University, where it has been open for 10 years. On a weekend date the writer ordered a strawberry latte (5,800 won) with an apple fig financier, a yellow cheese financier and a dirty choco madeleine (3,900 won each), and the yellow cheese financier won for its balance of mellow and sweet. With a large parking lot on site, Cafe Pomun is an easy place to sit down with dessert in Pyeongtaek.

This weekend was all about hopping between dates in Pyeongtaek! This review is about Cafe Pomun, where I loved the financiers and madeleines so much. The vibe was calm and antique-y, and with a full parking lot on site it was such an easy place to visit!

What do Cafe Pomun's signature bakes taste like?

✔️ Looks — as befits a dessert spot, the madeleines, financiers, and cakes all look so delicious you want to grab one of each!
✔️ Taste — the madeleines are slightly crisp outside and soft and fluffy inside, while the financiers are firmer and chewier. Different textures, but both carry that gentle butter aroma and were so good!
✔️ Best pairing — order a bitter coffee or a rich latte alongside the desserts and you can't go wrong! The sweet-bitter balance keeps you reaching for more.

Inside Cafe Pomun's main building and annex

Cafe Pomun operates out of a standalone building near International University in Icheung-dong, Pyeongtaek.

The main building and the annex sit right next to each other and run together — and the annex is done in collaboration with a furniture company, so you can browse pretty furniture pieces while you're there!

Cafe Pomun has been running for about 10 years, and the vintage-toned interior really stood out.

There's also a thoughtful little event running: free juice for kids and one free baked good for pregnant guests — you can really feel the owner's consideration.

There's plenty of seating upstairs on the second floor of the main building too, and the staff serve tables directly and keep everything tidied up carefully.
The counter has a beautifully arranged lineup of desserts!

There's an especially wide variety of financiers and madeleines on offer —

— they look so delicious just to look at, I wanted to grab one of each!

Desserts that need refrigeration are also stored properly.

A coffee menu is a must with sweet desserts! We ordered a strawberry latte, and it was rich and delicious!

Apple fig financier
First up — figs, which seem to be everywhere lately! This is the apple fig financier. It's packed with fig and topped with a sweet sauce, so good!

Dirty choco madeleine
The dirty choco madeleine! Just as the name suggests, it comes coated in a ton of chocolate powder.

One bite and a rich chocolate aroma spreads through your mouth — just be prepared to get chocolate everywhere, and enjoy carefully!
My top pick: Cafe Pomun's yellow cheese financier
Out of the three we ordered, my personal favorite was the yellow cheese financier!

The balance of savory and sweet was what made this my top pick among the desserts.

Its sweetness pairs so well with the strawberry latte or coffee, so be sure to order a drink alongside it for the perfect combo!
