Icheung-dong café in Pyeongtaek: Einspänner and cake at Cafe Pomun

Today I went to Cafe Pomun in Icheung-dong for coffee and cake ☕. From the ivy-wrapped exterior to the wooden furniture and vintage props inside, every corner of this place caught my eye. If you're looking for a café with great atmosphere, this is the emotional, aesthetic café I want to introduce to you 🌿

Where is Cafe Pomun and what are its hours?

Cafe Pomun is a financier and baked-goods specialty café at 58-26 Chudam-ro, Icheung-dong, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hours are Monday–Thursday 09:00–22:00, Friday 11:00–22:00, Saturday 11:00–21:00, and Sunday 12:00–19:00.

Here's the exterior of Cafe Pomun 🌿. Ivy climbing up the bright walls and potted plants around the entrance give the building a lush green wrap-around look.

The slightly faded walls, lush vines, and the parasols visible under the big windows blend together naturally — it's so pretty 🥹

Pyeongtaek's Cafe Pomun also has its own separate parking area. There's a large outdoor parking space, so you don't have to worry about parking, which is really nice 🚗

The terrace seating has wooden tables and benches. Under the dark parasols, brick, wood furniture, and green plants come together, making it feel like a seat tucked into a little garden 🌿

This entrance in particular really won me over 🩷. Doesn't it look like a little European neighborhood café? The ivy vines definitely play a big part in setting that mood!

Inside Cafe Pomun's main building

The first floor of the main building at Cafe Pomun is overall a deep brown, wood-toned space. There's a bar seat running along the window, great for doing homework, studying, or working. The view is also really pretty.

Every single one of these little props matched the café's vibe so well, it put me in a good mood. Looking at pretty things just makes me happy.

At Pyeongtaek's Cafe Pomun, financiers with different toppings are lined up side by side in the case. They really do specialize in financiers and baked goods — I have to hand it to them 👍

There's also a variety of madeleines ready to go. If you love baked goods, gather round Cafe Pomun 🥹 wow, these look so delicious ✨

The financiers can also be packaged to take home — the boxes and shopping bags are pretty too 🎁. They were also selling Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving) gift sets, so check it out if you're interested.

Next to the display case was a sign noting that pregnant customers get one free baked good, and children aged 0–7 get a free juice. This kind of thoughtful care really touched me 🥹. I heard they've run this shop in the same spot for over 10 years, and you can feel that attentiveness toward customers even in these small details 💕

Main building second floor or annex: where to sit at Cafe Pomun

Cafe Pomun has both a second floor in the main building and an annex, so there are plenty of seating choices. After ordering, I checked out the second floor too — cream-colored walls, wooden tables and chairs, and standing lamps by the big windows give it a different vibe from downstairs 🩷

The space is spacious with a window view, so it never felt cramped. There were lots of seats with plush cushions too, and I saw many guests up on the second floor. We wanted a bit more privacy though, so we decided to head to the annex!

Isn't the annex just so pretty? From the bicycle to the wood-toned vertical windows, it's basically Europe 🥹🫶

Once I stepped inside, it was even more my style. A slightly brighter wood tone and clean-lined furniture make this an aesthetic space that really caught my eye 🤎. Just an all-around great vibe.

Are the annex's wooden chairs comfortable for three hours?

By the window in the annex there are chairs to sit in, making it a great space to come alone or read a book. I ended up sitting there for about 3 hours chatting away, and my backside didn't hurt much at all.

I looked it up and found out these chairs are a collaboration with a furniture shop called Deul. Honestly, I'm usually not a fan of wooden chairs because they're hard, but even so — they're pretty 🥹🩷. That got me curious, so I ended up looking into them more! If you're someone who loves this kind of aesthetic but also wants a comfortable chair, I recommend checking out the furniture shop's Instagram.

Even the spot where they put out blankets, water, and tissues is full of aesthetic charm 🥹🩷

What we ordered: americano, Einspänner and chestnut matcha chocolate cake

What we ordered at Cafe Pomun was an americano, an Einspänner, and a chestnut matcha chocolate cake. Man, the photos turned out so pretty. Everyone, come recharge your aesthetic soul at Cafe Pomun 🌿

Americano: low acidity, nutty and mellow

Cafe Pomun's americano comes in a large glass cup topped with a dense layer of tiny bubbles. The saucer is pretty too — this owner's got taste 👍

I'm not great with coffee that has strong acidity, but here the acidity doesn't pop out too much, which I loved 🥹. The nutty flavor came through clearly, and to my taste, the coffee flavor itself felt rich too.

Einspänner: sweet cream over nutty milk flavor

Next up is the Einspänner. In the clear-handled cup, white cream and brown coffee show up in distinct layers, with a thick layer of cream piled on top.

The sweet cream flavor here was really good 🥹. Along with the cream's sweetness, you could also taste the milk, which carried through into a nutty flavor. With the sweet, nutty cream mixing in with the coffee, it was the kind of drink you enjoy sip by sip.

Chestnut matcha chocolate cake: dense chocolate with matcha and chestnut

And then, the chestnut matcha chocolate cake 🍰. Between the deep brown chocolate cake layers is a thick layer of green matcha cream. Just looking at the cross-section, with layers of cake and cream stacked alternately, you can really feel the thickness of each slice.

Taking a forkful, you get a dense, rich texture with the deep sweetness of chocolate 🤎. It was a fairly sweet cake, but 'deliciously sweet' is exactly the right description. Along with the chocolate's rich sweetness, you can taste the matcha's bitterness too, and that combination of the two was really lovely.

The bits of chestnut mixed in are also a delicious highlight 🌰. As you eat bite by bite, the chestnut shows up right on cue, so it's a cake where you get to enjoy chocolate, matcha, and chestnut all together. Highly recommend this cake 👍

Who will enjoy Cafe Pomun most?

Right up until the end, I kept soaking in the aesthetic vibe of Cafe Pomun, chatting away, before finally heading home 🥹🩷

With nutty coffee paired with sweet-and-bitter cake, plus warm wooden furniture and props to look at everywhere, I found myself wanting to keep this place all to myself 🤎. If you're looking for a dessert café in Pyeongtaek and want a relaxed break in a vintage, aesthetic space, I'd recommend Cafe Pomun in Icheung-dong.
