Kid-friendly tonkatsu in Godeok, Pyeongtaek: cheese katsu at Omi Katsu

In short

Omi Katsu is a newly opened tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant on Godeogyeoyeom 11-gil in Godeok, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting with two children, the writer ordered the cold soba set with cheese katsu and the minced meat curry rice set with tenderloin and loin katsu, and found the pork thick, clean-tasting and free of any gamey smell since the owner brings the meat straight from the slaughterhouse. The older child picked the cheese katsu and the younger the tenderloin katsu, making Omi Katsu an easy choice for a family meal.

Tonkatsu table setting at Omi Katsu in Godeok, Pyeongtaek

These days when I go out for tonkatsu, the breading's gotten thicker and the meat thinner, so sometimes it feels like I'm just eating fried batter instead of pork haha😂 But Omi Katsu in Godeok, Pyeongtaek was a place where I finally thought, "ah, now THAT was real tonkatsu!"

What kind of place is Omi Katsu in Godeok, Pyeongtaek?

Omi Katsu is a newly opened tonkatsu restaurant at 28 Godeogyeoyeom 11-gil, unit 101. Since it just opened, the exterior is super clean and fresh✨

Since it's near Godeok, it seems like a lot of office workers come here too. We visited that day right when break time ended at 4pm!

When we first walked in it was pretty relaxed, but not long after, customers started pouring in👀 I guess it really is a popular lunch and dinner spot for Godeok office workers haha. Since the place just opened, it's not just clean — everything felt well managed overall!

Clean, well-managed interior of Omi Katsu

Even though it's a new independent shop, it felt more systematically run, almost like a franchise. And the owner was so kind🥰 Even with kids along, they paid careful attention so we could eat comfortably — we left in a great mood👍🏻

What's at the self-serve corner at Omi Katsu?

At Omi Katsu, you help yourself to as much as you need from the self-serve corner🫶🏻

We got broth, kimchi, pickled radish, and more! Tonkatsu sauce was already on the table too, which was convenient~

What we ordered at Omi Katsu 🥢

Two set menus served at Omi Katsu

Since we came with the kids that day, we ordered two set menus🩵

  • Cold soba set – with cheese katsu
  • Minced meat curry rice set – with tenderloin katsu and loin katsu

We wanted tonkatsu, but also cold refreshing soba, and were curious about the curry too, so we mixed and matched hahaha

🧀 Cheese katsu: the older child's top pick

First up, my first kid's favorite: cheese katsu🧀 Kids love it so much that we never skip it whenever we go to a tonkatsu place.

And sure enough, my first kid's top pick was cheese katsu hahaha. Cheese inside a crispy crust made for a savory, soft bite🧀

The cheese is seriously amazing… you have to try it👏🏻👏🏻

It's a flavor that's not overwhelming for kids either, so I think families would love the cheese katsu too🥰 And you know kids' taste buds don't lie, right? Hahaha

🥩 Tenderloin and loin katsu with seriously thick pork

Thick tenderloin and loin katsu

And here's the part that impressed me most about Omi Katsu — the meat itself👍🏻 The owner apparently goes to the slaughterhouse in person to source it😎 And you could really tell — the meat was quite substantial and thick🫢

Best of all, there was barely any gamey smell and it tasted clean😊 These days there's a lot of tonkatsu with thin meat and just crispy breading, but here, one bite and I really felt like "I'm eating meat!"😂

It wasn't like eating a pile of fried batter — after finishing one cutlet, you actually felt full and satisfied! I personally love this style of tonkatsu, so it really hit the spot🤎

The loin katsu let you really taste the meat itself😉

Soft-textured tenderloin katsu

The tenderloin had a slightly softer texture that melted in your mouth🤓 💗And my second kid's top pick was the tenderloin katsu! My second kid kept asking for only tenderloin katsu hahaha. Kid #1 loves cheese katsu, kid #2 loves tenderloin katsu — their preferences are pretty clear🤣

🥢 Cold soba that wasn't too sweet

We also tried the cold soba (buckwheat noodles) ordered alongside the tonkatsu👏🏻 I usually get tired of cold soba quickly when it's too sweet, but Omi Katsu's version wasn't overly sweet, which I liked~

A refreshing bowl of cold soba

It was clean and refreshing, and alternating between a bite of tonkatsu and a bite of cold soba really cut through the greasiness!

Tonkatsu and cold soba together really is a combination that never fails😋

🍛 Minced meat curry with just enough spice

And the minced meat curry rice I was curious about🍛 The curry had a slight kick of spice, so rather than getting tired of it, I kept wanting more haha

Minced meat curry mixed into rice

It paired well with the tonkatsu, and was also delicious just mixed into rice on its own — filling enough for a solid meal👍🏻 Especially with the minced meat in it, it felt richer than plain curry.

🤎 Is Omi Katsu worth it for a family tonkatsu meal?

A full tonkatsu meal spread at Omi Katsu

What I realized eating at Omi Katsu is that it was a bit different from what I've come to expect from tonkatsu lately! Not the thin-meat, crispy-breading-only style, but tonkatsu where the meat itself was substantial and clean-tasting — it felt like a proper, satisfying meal!🍛

A thick piece of tonkatsu

It was even better that both kids happily ate their cheese katsu and tenderloin katsu each🥰 True to a newly opened spot, it was clean, the owner was kind, and the place felt well managed overall, making it great for a family visit. Given its location in Godeok, it seemed like a lot of office workers eat here — even arriving right after break time ended, customers filled in quickly, so it seems like a consistently popular spot haha.

If you're in Godeok, Pyeongtaek and want tonkatsu with real, substantial meat, Omi Katsu is worth a visit :) We went with the kids and tried a bit of everything — cheese katsu, tenderloin, loin, cold soba, and curry🥢🤎 If you're taking kids out for tonkatsu, you might let them pick by preference too — cheese katsu for one, tenderloin katsu for the other💛 Oh, and there's a review event going on too, so check it out😉
