Dujeong-dong budae-jjigae with a kids' menu and baby chairs: Cheongwon

I had errands in Cheonan on a weekend morning, and while looking for an early lunch spot in Dujeong-dong, I ended up at Cheongwon Restaurant.

Budae-jjigae (army stew) can be too spicy for kids, but this place also has pork cutlet on the menu, so I decided to give it a try. :)

We had no idea about the event, so getting a giant egg roll as a freebie was such a bonus — great to share with the kids, haha.

Even if you can't make it early, you can get the same egg roll by participating in the Naver review event — worth keeping in mind if you want one, haha~

There are baby chairs set up in the restaurant too, so it shouldn't be uncomfortable to bring young children along.

Cheongwon Restaurant menu and prices: Songtan budae-jjigae and pork cutlet

The place has a small, tidy vibe. People kept coming in after us — some ate in, but a lot were getting takeout too.

There are basically two main options: the classic Songtan budae-jjigae and the spicier Cheongwon budae-jjigae, plus a pork cutlet on the side for the kids.

We ordered the milder Songtan budae-jjigae and the kids' pork cutlet.

After ordering, the side dishes were set out first, and then the budae-jjigae came out with the lid still on.

They put it right on the burner, and curious, I peeked underneath — it was packed with ham and other ingredients.

But — the tip for enjoying Cheongwon properly is not to lift the lid until the staff comes to stir it for you, haha.

The staff came by periodically to check on it, so we could just relax and wait.

The egg roll came out too, and it was kind of cute that they'd written 'Cheongwon' on it in ketchup, haha — the kids thought it was fun and loved it.

Can kids eat the Songtan budae-jjigae?

For someone who can't handle spice, Cheongwon's Songtan budae-jjigae was mildly spicy. Once it finished cooking, I tried a spoonful and, as a spice-wimp, I did feel a bit of heat... haha (my husband said it wasn't spicy at all, haha).

For the kids, we scooped out just the ham without broth and put it over rice — they said this level was manageable and ate it happily.

If your kids can handle slightly spicy kimchi, they should be fine with the Songtan budae-jjigae too.

If you want a spicier budae-jjigae, go with the Cheongwon budae-jjigae for more heat~

The tender pork loin cutlet at 9,000 won

A little later, the pork cutlet came out with french fries on the side. The kids went straight for the fries, haha.

We cut the cutlet into bite-size pieces to try, and the meat was really tender! Even kids who usually skip tough meat ate it happily and said it was good, haha.

I found it even tastier dipped in the sauce that came with it! We ordered the cutlet just in case the budae-jjigae was too spicy for the kids, but they ended up eating the stew better than expected — so I think I ended up eating most of the cutlet myself, haha.

Unlimited rice, ramyeon noodles and side dishes

If you run low on side dishes, you can grab more from the self-serve bar, and you can help yourself to as much rice and ramyeon noodles as you like without hesitation~

After eating through some of the ham, we added ramyeon noodles and boiled it again — the kids ate that up well too.

They also brought extra broth ahead of time, so we could top it up right away whenever we needed more.

Is Cheongwon Restaurant worth a visit with kids?

Cheongwon's budae-jjigae wasn't overly salty or heavily seasoned, so we left without feeling thirsty or that heavy, greasy aftertaste — the meal felt clean overall.

There's a coffee vending machine near the entrance too, so you can grab a quick coffee on your way out.

With baby chairs and separate kid-friendly options like the egg roll and pork cutlet, this is a place even kids who can't handle spicy food can enjoy along with everyone else.
