Suwan District hot pot restaurant for sundae and gopchang: Sinjuokmi

Hey everyone! It's Neudong! This is like our nth visit here~ Plus it's right in front of our close friends' place, so we've probably been 4-5 times?? We clearly drank together the night before, so.. of course we had to hangover-cure together too???

We drank too much the night before, so we needed a proper hangover cure~~ And honestly, not just for hangovers — when the weather gets a bit chilly, you start craving something warm and spicy~~ Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch's sundae-gopchang jeongol (sundae and tripe hot pot) to the rescue!!!

Is Sinjuokmi an easy restaurant to bring kids to?

The inside of Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch is spacious~~! And the tables are spaced well apart so it's totally OK with kids. And most of all, it's spotless!!

No separate break time, so you can enjoy it anytime, which is nice~ Even though it wasn't dinner time, there were still a lot of people~~

At Sinjuokmi, the kkakdugi (radish kimchi) and mu-saengchae (radish salad) at the self-serve bar are the real kicker!!! It's great that you can go back for more~~ We ordered the spicy fern sundae-gopchang jeongol (33,000 won) and the meat-only Myeongin sundae-guk (10,000 won)~~

The meat-only sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) came out first for the kids~~ It was packed with lean meat, and you could add the chili seasoning to taste. OK either way!

Especially since there's somyeon (thin noodles) at the self-serve bar, we mixed noodles into the broth and started with that first!! The kids ate it well too~~ Our friend's daughter, who really knows her food, mixed in a bit of kkakdugi juice~ hahahahahahaha

What comes in the 33,000-won spicy fern sundae-gopchang hot pot?

Now it was our turn~~ Sinjuokmi is known for using freshly boiled pork and handmade sundae, and the jeongol (hot pot) was loaded with plenty of sundae and gopchang (beef tripe), making it a great dish for a group. It wasn't just a spicy broth — the sundae, gopchang, fern, and assorted vegetables all came together, so you could enjoy several different textures in one pot 👏👏

The pot was generously filled with sundae and gopchang, along with fern and vegetables, so just looking at it you could tell the broth would be rich! I love fern so having it piled on top made me so happy~~

Odor-free gopchang and the bite of the fern

Especially with jeongol, it's more fun to eat while it simmers away than to dig in right away~~ The fern has that distinctive soft-yet-slightly-chewy texture, so eating it alongside the sundae and gopchang worked great. And of course you can't leave out the gopchang! It's chewy, and the more you chew the more savory it gets, which paired really well with the spicy broth. I'm not usually a big gopchang person, but Sinjuokmi's gopchang was chewy with no funky smell, which I loved~

A broth that turns richer the longer the hot pot simmers

The broth had a slight savory depth from the fern that paired well with the spiciness. At first, just the color of the broth already looked spicy, but as the pot started boiling, more flavor got drawn out.. it turned hot and tangy at first, and got deeper and richer the longer it went. Ugh........ I want a spoonful right now ㅠㅠㅠ

Sundae (Korean blood sausage) is also a must in this jeongol~~ Take a bite of sundae that's soaked up the warm broth, and you first get a soft, mild flavor, then the spicy broth flavor spreads through — the combo was great. In particular, sundae has a totally different texture from gopchang, so it was fun eating them alternately.

The combination of the spicy, deep broth + chewy gopchang + soft sundae + savory fern all came together beautifully, making it both a filling meal and a great jeongol to share as a dinner dish or drinking snack with a group~~~
