Jeonju dakgangjeong shop with next-day rice-side leftovers: Mannyeon

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a fried chicken shop at 27 Taejo-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk, right at the entrance to Jeonju Hanok Village. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, and you can park at the Hanok Village public parking lot.

The weather was turning cool and I was trying to figure out where to travel, so I picked Jeonju for a food tour!! And Jeonju food touring basically means Hanok Village, right? There were so many snacks I wanted to try, but the one that caught my eye the most was Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village branch!

Where Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is: Taejo-ro at the Hanok Village entrance

Mannyeon sits right at the entrance where Hanok Village begins, so you run into it as soon as you walk in along Taejo-ro. As I got near the shop, that sweet, savory dakgangjeong (Korean-style sweet-spicy fried chicken) smell hit me and it was pretty much impossible to just walk past haha.

Jeonju is famous for bibimbap and choco pies and all that, but isn't the real ending to a trip a late-night snack with beer back at the guesthouse??????? So I ran straight to Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, a Jeonju Hanok Village must-eat spot!!!!

There was jjondeugi and slushy beer right next door too, and honestly that was tempting lol

Why you should leave the takeout lid open

Mannyeon says they use fresh fruit-based sauce! And apparently it tastes even better once it cools down (no lingering smell!!). Also, once you get your dakgangjeong, the tip for keeping it crispy is to leave the lid open!!! Otherwise steam builds up and it can go soggy, they say.

Side dishes at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong: skewers, cheese sticks and more

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store doesn't just have dakgangjeong — there's a side menu too. Sotteok-sotteok, sweet potato cheese sticks, fried jjondeugi, and cheese balls packed full inside!!! I regretted not buying more of the others ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

I thought this would be a decent stop for anyone sightseeing around Hanok Village and looking for a late-night snack.

How long is the wait? No line on a weekday, ready in 10 minutes

You order right here! Since it's made fresh the moment you order, figure on about 10 minutes. I went on a weekday so there was no line, but I had a feeling weekends probably come with some waiting ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

They said if you write a Naver receipt review, you get a fun little gift, so definitely give that a try

How the half-and-half large (mild + soy sauce) tasted

What I ordered was the half-and-half large, a combo of mild and soy sauce flavors.

Finally got it packed up and tried it haha

The dakgangjeong had sauce evenly coating the outside while still keeping a decent crispy texture from the frying, which I loved. It seemed like something everyone could enjoy since group orders are possible and the portions are generous. When I was picking mine up, I noticed families with babies ordering too??

I think the charm of dakgangjeong really is that combo of crispy batter + sweet-salty sauce + tender chicken. The sauce wasn't overpoweringly intense either, more the type that keeps you reaching back for another piece rather than stopping after one or two. Eating it with beer at the guesthouse, it just kept disappearing lol... seriously, when am I ever going to lose weight...

The soy sauce dakgangjeong and its thick pieces of meat

This one's the soy sauce flavor! Thick, meaty pieces that really fill you up~

Don't even need to describe the sauce, it just clings to your mouth in the best way. Paired with beer bought from a convenience store, it was pure bliss!!!!!!!

Cold the next day: dakgangjeong as a side dish with rice

After the Jeonju trip ended and I got home, I ate it cold the next day and it was still really good. It actually worked pretty well as a side dish with rice too????? The weather's getting nice and cool so I'm guessing a lot of you are planning trips — if you visit Jeonju Hanok Village, I hope you get to enjoy delicious food along with the pretty hanok scenery for a great trip~~~

Overall verdict: among the countless snacks in Jeonju Hanok Village, this one has generous portions and works perfectly as a dinner substitute!!!!
