A mulgalbi restaurant near Jeonju Hanok Village public parking

Jeonju has so much delicious food, but if I had to pick one signature dish that really lets you feel the local atmosphere and warmth, it would definitely be mulgalbi (galbi hot pot)! The place I visited this time was Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi, packed with the know-how of 30 years in the food-service business ❤️

There is a dedicated space directly in front of the restaurant for about five cars. If you visit early, bringing your car right up front will make parking much easier, so keep that in mind!

Out front, there were lovely outdoor tables, a little pond topped with cute earthenware jars, and even a fountain. The cool, tidy view put me in a good mood before I even stepped inside.

As soon as I entered, I could see the pond through the wide floor-to-ceiling windows, so the space did not feel stuffy at all!

Galbi hot pot set and a plate of yukjeon

As you would expect from a neat Korean restaurant in Jeonju Hanok Village, the signature dishes were very nicely put together. The popular signatures here are the galbi hot pot set, galbi hot pot, and a plate of yukjeon (pan-fried battered beef slices)!

After ordering, an orderly spread of Korean side dishes arrived, including seasoned garlic chives, seasoned bean sprouts, and seasoned peppers. Every single side dish was seasoned just right—seriously made me want to keep eating rice!

Then the yukjeon included in the set arrived first! Fresh off the grill, the meat was wonderfully thick and had a savory seasoning already, so it was absolutely delicious even on its own 🩶

Paired with the peppery, savory seasoned garlic chives served alongside it, the umami just exploded—it was a dream combination!

Sweet-spicy mulgalbi after 8 more minutes of simmering

While I was happily enjoying the yukjeon, the main dish, mulgalbi, came out soon after.

Mulgalbi topped generously with vegetables

Fresh vegetables—bean sprouts, glass noodles, mushrooms, green onions, carrots, and more—were piled generously into a special sweet-spicy broth made with natural ingredients and fruit. The presentation alone made me gasp!

The owner kindly explained that it would be at its best after bubbling away for about eight more minutes. As I waited, that delicious scent rising from the simmering pot teased my nose, and I was salivating so much!

Once some time had passed, the vegetables had softened and the broth had fully developed, so I slurped up the glass noodles and bean sprouts first. The chewy noodles soaked in seasoning and the crisp bean sprouts had an absolutely incredible texture.

The thick galbi meat inside cooked quickly too, so I cut it into bite-size pieces with scissors. There was such a generous amount of meat as well.

I placed a piece of meat on fresh lettuce, added bean sprouts and sauce, and wrapped up a big ssam (lettuce wrap). The deep, savory sweetness and spice unique to the natural fruit broth came together so deliciously!

Mulgalbi might sound a little unfamiliar, but it is a special dish that people of all ages can enjoy without any hesitation! It was so good that I ate it without even realizing it, haha 🩶
