Jeonju chicken snack eaten outdoors with busking: Mannyeon

In short

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) shop on Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. We ordered the large shrimp and chicken half-and-half with one spicy and one soy sauce portion, waited about 5 minutes for it to come out freshly fried, and ate it at an outdoor seat nearby with slushy beer from Gyodong Jjondeugi next door while a busker played. Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is an easy snack stop in the middle of a walk through the hanok village.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong: a snack stop in Jeonju Hanok Village

Today I'm bringing you a review of Mannyeon Dakgangjeong (만년닭강정), which we tried as a snack while wandering around Jeonju Hanok Village! There's so much to see in the hanok village, but there are also so many delicious things to eat as you walk around haha. We were trying bits and pieces here and there when we spotted Mannyeon Dakgangjeong and dove right in 🍗

If you've been searching around for Jeonju Hanok Village restaurants or Jeonju Hanok Village food, you've probably come across this place before! Let me be honest about how it tasted and whether it was a good simple snack option for Jeonju food :)

What we ordered: large shrimp and chicken half-and-half

Walking into the store, there was a separate ordering counter set up. I thought they only sold dakgangjeong (fried chicken glazed in sauce), but there were side menu items too haha. After some deliberating, we ordered the shrimp + chicken gangjeong half-and-half, large size! For flavors, we picked one spicy and one soy sauce 🍗🦐

After ordering, they said it would take about 5 minutes! Popular places really do get busy haha. But knowing we'd get freshly fried gangjeong made the wait exciting rather than annoying — I couldn't wait for the hot, crispy chicken to arrive :)

While looking around, I noticed the store right next door — turns out the same people also run Gyodong Jjondeugi haha. Slushy beer?! I couldn't resist and ordered one haha, thinking it would go perfectly with dakgangjeong haha. They also sell Jeonju moju (a warm traditional rice drink) — that one's for next time!

Why the box says "please open the lid"

The dakgangjeong finally arrived!!! And the visual — 🤤🍗 The moment I opened it, my eyes were already having a great time haha. Then I noticed something written on the packaging!

Please open the lid after receiving your dakgangjeong. Steam buildup can make it soggy.

That's what it said! Apparently it tastes better if you open the lid to let the steam out and let it cool slightly rather than eating it right away. But I was so hungry that... 😂 I couldn't wait and just dug in while it was still warm haha. Still, being freshly made and hot, it smelled absolutely delicious 🍗

Garlic flakes on the soy sauce, chili peppers on the spicy

From the plump, meaty shrimp gangjeong to the big, tempting chunks of chicken gangjeong, the visuals alone made me hungry 🍤🍗 The soy sauce flavor especially had a generous layer of garlic flakes on top, adding a nutty, crispy texture!

And the spicy flavor had chili peppers mixed right in, so if you like heat, you can really enjoy it spicy 🌶️ Rather than sticking to just one flavor, getting soy sauce and spicy half-and-half like this meant we got to enjoy two different charms, which made it even more delicious haha.

Is there anywhere to sit? Outdoor seats with busking

Just a short walk from Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, there was also a space where you could sit comfortably and eat! There happened to be a busker performing nearby too, so eating delicious dakgangjeong while listening to music made for a really romantic atmosphere 🎶

The combo of slushy beer and dakgangjeong is the best 👍👍👍 Definitely order them together >.< Enjoying the hanok village atmosphere while eating made even a simple snack feel more special haha. If you're looking for Jeonju Hanok Village food, I'd recommend getting it to go and enjoying it leisurely at a nearby seat like this! Maybe because we ate it hot and fresh, it was so crispy and delicious that we cleared the whole box in no time 🤭🍗

Was Mannyeon Dakgangjeong worth it?

💛 Final thoughts 💛 If you're looking for simple Jeonju food to enjoy while touring the hanok village, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong seems like a solid choice! Being able to order shrimp gangjeong and chicken gangjeong half-and-half meant we got to enjoy two flavors at once, and both the garlic flakes on the soy sauce and the chili peppers in the spicy had distinct charms that made it delicious 🍗🍤

Above all, there's a spot to sit just a short walk away, and being able to enjoy busking alongside it meant we really got to soak in the hanok village atmosphere while eating. If you're searching for Jeonju Hanok Village restaurants or Jeonju Hanok Village food, this could be a great stop for a snack during your trip :)
