A famous Icheon restaurant, a famous Icheon galbi spot — I went to Neul Gogi Jip, a great place to bring your parents for Chuseok!
Recently I visited Neul Gogi Jip on Gyeongchung-daero with my family for a weekday dinner.

Maybe it's because the food carries over 30 years of meat expertise and the touch of a master Korean-cuisine craftsman, but this meal was beyond expectations — perfect. The deep flavor of Icheon Korean cuisine and the spotless food and space made it a great place to bring guests, so I'm writing this review.
Where is Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch, and what about parking and hours?

Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is on Gyeongchung-daero in Icheon, Gyeonggi, right next to Icheon Bareun Hospital. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:30, with last order at 20:30.

The parking area is really spacious, which is super convenient for new drivers or family group visits! Right next to Icheon Bareun Hospital, Icheon Hi-Mart, and Icheon Happy Mart / across from Icheon Lotte Castle and Icheon Miranda Hotel / close to downtown Icheon and Icheon Seolbong Park / just 10 minutes from Icheon Simmons Terrace and Icheon Terme Den!

Group visits welcome (private rooms for 6–26 people / group seating up to 120), takeout discount, waiting area, wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating, corkage available (fee). Not only is it well connected to downtown Icheon, it's also just 10 minutes from places worth visiting in Icheon like Simmons Terrace, Terme Den, and Seolbong Park, making it a perfect stop on a travel route too.
Inside Neul Gogi Jip: the dining room and the master chef's touch
As soon as I stepped in, the cozy, clean interior caught my eye. It's well set up with comfortable rooms and group seating, perfect for small gatherings as well as large family get-togethers or company dinners.

The most special thing about Neul Gogi Jip is that they cook their pot rice with hwangmi (yellow rice) freshly milled in-store every single day, and they insist on using only domestic fresh meat!!!

And the self-serve side dish bar was so clean too!!

Out front there are products that make good gifts, perfect for Chuseok presents too! And here's the thing — a lot of places even charge extra for water, but this place has such a different mindset that I was genuinely touched. The water even has a Neul Gogi Jip label, and they hand out good water generously, saying water is food too... I honestly wondered if the owner could afford to run a business this generously — so clean and so unstingy.

And in the lounge waiting room, they even have coffee and ice cream ready to go!!

True to a slogan of never cutting corners, from the quality of the meat down to every single side dish, the whole spread was full of health and care — house-made pickled vegetables, seasonal namul (seasoned greens), and impossibly fresh ssam (wrap) vegetables.
What we ordered on a weekday evening with the family

The Neul Gogi Jip menu! For our weekday evening visit, my family ordered nuruk pork galbi mokssal, beef tendon doenjang (soybean paste) stew, mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), and hwangmi pot rice, and thoroughly enjoyed all of it!

Nuruk-marinated pork galbi mokssal
Neul Gogi Jip's signature dish, the nuruk-marinated pork galbi mokssal, is naturally aged with nuruk (traditional fermentation starter) salt, so the meat is really tender with a flavor unlike others. Usually with seasoned galbi the seasoning is too strong or aggressively sweet and gets tiresome fast, but—

the pork galbi here isn't salty at all — the subtly rich seasoning soaks all the way through, and even the kids ate it up. And you can't have meat without doenjang stew! But Neul Gogi Jip's beef tendon doenjang stew goes way beyond an ordinary side dish.
Beef tendon doenjang stew

Loaded generously with chewy, tender beef tendon, the broth had real depth and richness. There's also a subtle spicy kick at the finish that cuts right through the richness of the meat, making it a perfect pairing with drinks too! If you enjoy a drink, this is a must-order — one bowl of this and you're set, haha.
And since my daughter loves pot rice so much, we had to order it. Icheon is Icheon rice country after all.

Hwangmi pot rice and nurungji sungnyung (scorched rice tea)
The hwangmi pot rice, made fresh with hwangmi rice milled in-store every day! The moment they opened the lid, a savory rice aroma hit my nose.
Freshly cooked rice has that particular stickiness and shine, and the more you chew it the more savory-sweet it gets. Topped with a savory, tender piece of nuruk pork galbi, it was absolutely a 'rice thief.' To finish, they made nurungji sungnyung (scorched rice tea) from the leftover crust, which wrapped up the meal warm and satisfying.
Finishing with mul-naengmyeon
The finale of any meat meal is definitely cool mul-naengmyeon! The clean, slightly tangy-sweet broth topped with a thin layer of ice cleared my palate perfectly. The noodles were also chewy and springy, and wrapping them around the last bit of nuruk pork galbi mokssal was such a great combination.

Is Neul Gogi Jip a good place to take your parents?
Icheon's famous Neul Gogi Jip is more than just a meat restaurant — true to the philosophy of a master Korean-cuisine craftsman, it felt like being served a thoughtful, home-cooked table where 'flavor and sincerity never change, no matter how much time passes.' They say lunchtime is also popular for warm pot rice, generous ssambap (rice-and-wrap meal), and savory fire-flavor jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), so I'm planning to come back for a lunch ssambap spread next time!
If you're in Icheon looking for delicious seasoned galbi, samgyeopsal, aged raw galbi, or a distinctive take on Icheon Korean food — or if you want a solid, warm meal on a trip to Seolbong Park or Terme Den — I highly recommend Neul Gogi Jip on Gyeongchung-daero. It's clean enough to bring your parents, and a great place to take them out for a Chuseok meal!
