Harbin beer and fried eggplant at Marine City Chinese, Busan: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a Chinese restaurant with a Dongbaekseom ocean view, on the 2nd floor above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. The writer ordered poached-egg pork belly ganjajang (noodles with black bean sauce), seafood jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and eohyang gaji (Sichuan-style fried eggplant) with a Harbin beer: the eggplant was never soaked in its sauce and stayed crisp to the last bite, while the jjamppong broth was sharp and bracing. Bueokgan serves traditional Chinese cooking with an upscale finish, and black vinegar tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) is next on the list.

Bueokgan Chinese serves a wide variety of Chinese dishes — from traditional jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) to tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and eohyang gaji (Sichuan-style fried eggplant) 🙌🏻

Inside Bueokgan: 330 m² of space and Dongbaekseom ocean-view window seats

The inside of Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a spacious place nearly 330㎡, with a 12-seat table for group gatherings. Isn't the interior so clean too ✨ You'd expect a Chinese restaurant to feel greasy and chaotic, but this wasn't the Chinese restaurant we're used to at all — it had an upscale, warm feel and I loved it!!

The window seats have a panoramic ocean view 🤍 A view where you can see the sea and Dongbaekseom ~~~

What we ordered at Bueokgan Chinese

There's plain jjajang, ganjajang, and gochu ganjajang, and for jjamppong there's beef, mala, and seafood, so you can pick according to taste! We ordered poached-egg pork belly ganjajang, seafood jjamppong, and eohyang gaji.

Basic side dishes of pickled radish and danmuji

The basic side dishes are jjajangmyeon-style pickled radish and danmuji (yellow pickled radish).

Eohyang gaji: fried eggplant that stays crisp in sweet-savory sauce

First up was the eohyang gaji fried eggplant! It had a soy-sauce-based sauce that was sweet and savory in a way that kept you coming back for more 🤤 The frying was so crispy too — crispy outside, tender inside ~~~ Some places drown the fried pieces in sauce, but here it was served this way so it stayed crispy to the last bite, which I loved .. ✨

Eating it with onion cuts the richness completely, so you can eat twice as much haha

Harbin beer enjoyed with the fried dish

Why Harbin beer works with Bueokgan's fried eggplant

There's no giving up beer with fried food..... True to the Chinese food theme, we drank Harbin beer 🍺 I hadn't drunk Harbin much before, but it had a bit of an ale feel and was delicious.

Poached-egg pork belly ganjajang, Bueokgan's signature dish

Poached-egg pork belly ganjajang is the jjajang you can't skip at a Chinese restaurant!! It was my first time having poached egg with jjajang so I was curious how it would taste 👀 Popping the egg ~~~

Pork belly ganjajang with the poached egg popped

Taking a bite, the soft poached egg made the yolk's nuttiness absolutely amazing!!!

Pork belly ganjajang mixed together

There's plenty of pork belly in there too, full of smoky char flavor and so delicious ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I heard it's Bueokgan's best menu item — confirmed, this is a ganjajang must-try!!

Seafood jjamppong packed with mussels, shrimp, squid and octopus

Jjamppong is my favorite Chinese restaurant dish, and after debating with beef jjamppong I thought, jjamppong has to be seafood! and chose seafood jjamppong. True to its name, it's loaded with seafood ~~~

Seafood-packed jjamppong from Bueokgan

Doesn't it look packed just from looking at it 🔥 The seafood includes mussels, shrimp, squid, octopus, and more.

But this broth is insane ..... It's spicy with a smoky char flavor, and maybe because there's so much seafood in it, the broth is incredibly refreshing 👍🏻 The best jjamppong I've had in a while ....

Is Bueokgan Chinese in Marine City worth a visit?

I thought a modern-looking Chinese restaurant like this might have unusual flavors, but it actually kept the taste of traditional Chinese cooking alive. It's like a delicious neighborhood Chinese restaurant with something upscale added ..... Truly a Chinese food spot worth recommending!

Honestly, I'm thinking about the jjamppong even as I write this .. The eohyang gaji was delicious too, but next time I visit I'm definitely trying the black vinegar tangsuyuk ㅜ If you're looking for a good restaurant in Marine City, Haeundae, give Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch a visit!
