Lunch with parents at a Haeundae Chinese restaurant: eohyang gaji

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the second floor above Subyeonchoego Pork Gukbap on Marine City 3-ro in Haeundae, Busan. At an 11:30am weekend lunch with parents, the abalone shrimp fried rice (18,000 won) came fluffy with real wok-char flavor, and the eohyang gaji (22,000 won, fried eggplant in savory sauce) was freshly fried, crisp outside and soft inside. Every window seat at Bueokgan is reserved, so book ahead to get the full Marine City sea view.

Outside|A Chinese restaurant on the second floor?

Around 11:30am on a weekend, after grocery shopping with my mom and dad, we headed to Bueokgan Marine City Branch.

The walk to Bueokgan Chinese from the Marine City street

A Haeundae Chinese restaurant where you can also enjoy the Marine City sea view? Even hungry, my expectations went up!

After parking and heading up to the 2nd floor, my first impression was, 'Wait, is this really a Chinese restaurant?'

Stairs to the 2nd-floor entrance of Bueokgan Chinese

Unlike the typical Chinese restaurant vibe I expected, the exterior looked clean and sleek, so I double-checked the sign haha

Right in front of the entrance there were chairs for waiting comfortably

Seems like it'd be easy to wait here with parents or kids too!

Right by the door, there was a separate space to wash your hands.

Hand-washing space set up near the door

Being able to comfortably wash hands before eating, and having it kept so clean, already won me over on the hygiene front!

Walking further in, the view stole the show next. The sea stretched out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows... yep, this is Busan, all about that ocean~~!

I thought sitting by the window eating with a sea view would be the ultimate vibe, but every seat except the ones already occupied was reserved.

Window seats filled with reservation signs

Guess everyone already knows this is a view spot haha

If you're hunting for a Haeundae Chinese restaurant and want to properly enjoy the sea view too, booking a window seat in advance seems like the way to go.

There was also a group room that's great for gatherings or work dinners. The mood and view in the room were amazing too haha

On one side there was a spacious open kitchen where you could watch the cooking happen and see how tidy it was kept — I liked that too.

What we ordered and what the menu costs

  • ✔ Abalone shrimp fried rice ₩18,000
  • ✔ Eohyang gaji (Sichuan-style fish-fragrant eggplant) ₩22,000
  • ✔ Soju ₩5,000

It wasn't even 2pm yet and dad naturally ordered soju haha Nicely done~ If only I hadn't driven, I'd have joined for a glass too ㅠ

The jjajachi (pickled mustard) came out neatly, and the main dishes arrived quickly without much of a wait.

A Chinese spread served quickly on the table

First up, the abalone shrimp fried rice!

Golden, fluffy fried rice with big chunks of shrimp and abalone standing out right away, and a generous side of jjajang sauce.

The first bite delivers that signature Chinese-restaurant wok-char flavor! You know the taste you can never quite get at home even with the highest heat haha

A spoonful of wok-charred, fluffy fried rice

The rice grains weren't mushy at all, fried up light and fluffy, and the plump shrimp and chewy abalone added great texture too.

Eaten plain you really taste that nutty wok-char flavor, and mixing in the jjajang sauce partway through adds a salty umami kick for a whole different feel!

Egg drop soup served alongside the fried rice

The egg drop soup that came with it was light on seasoning too, perfect for a spoonful in between bites of fried rice.

Next up, the eohyang gaji!

Eohyang gaji tossed with sauce, onion, and scallion

Big chunks of fried eggplant tossed with sauce, onion, and scallion — the look alone made my mouth water. Freshly fried, the outside was crispy and the inside hot and soft.

Picking it up with chopsticks, you could see the soft eggplant flesh underneath, making me want to eat it right away ㅠ I popped it straight in my mouth and my tongue instantly... let it cool a bit before you eat it ^^

The slightly sweet, savory sauce paired really well with the eggplant, and the crunchy onion added even more texture. A bite of fried rice, then a piece of eohyang gaji... this combo keeps going in, honestly 😋

Is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch worth a visit?

From the sea view to the abalone shrimp fried rice and eohyang gaji, a satisfying visit to Bueokgan Marine City Branch, a solid Haeundae Chinese restaurant.

The table at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch after the meal

It was a great atmosphere for a relaxed meal with my parents, and next time I'd love to book a window seat in advance. I also want to try the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) I've seen everyone around us eating!
