Centum City cake shop honey vanilla fig mini, 2-hour trip: Sijeunikeu

Today I went to check out a famous fruit cake shop in Centum City. I'm a huge dessert person, especially cookies and cakes. I went in with high expectations, and just like some of the reviews said, it wasn't too sweet at all — it really felt like a great dessert, so I wanted to share it.

Sijeunikeu Shinsegae Department Store Centum City Branch is on the basement floor at 35 Centumnam-daero, Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea. Hours are Monday–Thursday 10:30–20:00 and Friday–Sunday 10:30–20:30.

Which fruit cakes are in the Sijeunikeu showcase?

The shop is on the basement floor of Centum City. When I got there, there were cakes lined up by fruit — fig, peach, mango, and more. They all looked so good I couldn't decide what to pick, haha.

What I liked most was how generously the fruit was piled on top of the cakes. These days a lot of chain bakeries charge a lot but the cake is 90 percent sponge and whipped cream. Honestly the prices here are similar, so I figured I might as well get a proper cake at Sijeunikeu.

There was also a cheesecake topped with fruit, but no fig version. I was curious how cheese and fig would go together, so I decided to try the cheesecake next time.

Candles were already available at the shop, so there was no need to buy them elsewhere.

A 2-hour trip home: do you need the 2,500 won cooler bag?

At Sijeunikeu, they recommend adding a cooler bag if your transport time is over an hour, since the whipped cream might melt. It costs ₩2,500. An ice pack is included by default.

My trip took about two hours, but since the weather's been cool lately, it was fine without the cooler bag. (When I mentioned it would take about two hours, they threw in an extra ice pack — and the owner was really kind.)

Honey vanilla fig mini: one slice each for 4 people

I chose the fig cake. It was my first time trying a cake with fig in it, and the visual looked so good that I picked the honey vanilla fig mini. It looks even prettier and more delicious in person than in the photos — such a shame the pictures can't capture it fully, haha.

The fruit was fresh and tasted just like the fig I know. It was mini in size, but perfect for four people to have one slice each.

Cutting the fig cake open: whole figs inside too

If you cut carefully, the fruit doesn't spill out...! There were big pieces of fig inside too, so you could really taste the fig properly. A lot of cakes these days look sparse once you cut into them, but shouldn't they all be packed with fruit like Sijeunikeu's?!

Anyway, the fact that the cake wasn't super sweet or strong was actually a plus. The fig, sponge, and cream went surprisingly well together, and I kept reaching for more. If you're curious, you have to try the fig cake — it's the kind of cake you can eat without feeling guilty.

It also went really well with coffee. With so much fig piled on top, I never felt like the fruit was lacking while eating it. The mango cake looked really good too, so I'll try that next time and write another review.

Who is the Sijeunikeu honey vanilla fig mini for?

If you're spending an anniversary or a special occasion in Busan, I'd recommend picking up a cake from Sijeunikeu. If you love fruit cakes especially, you'll definitely enjoy it.

The sponge and cream were tasty too, but since most of it was fruit, you could really taste the natural flavor of the fruit itself. The packaging was neat, and since it wasn't too sweet, I'd say it's the kind of cake that adults or parents would love.
