Bangi-dong Korean BBQ with name-on-glass waiting: Jinseong Hanwoo
In short
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch is a Korean beef gopchang, daechang and makchang restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. After the Lotte World Folk Museum, the writer came with her child and ordered one portion each of beef gopchang and beef daechang at 19,000 won apiece, with mijeolma sauce, three house-made kimchi and steamed egg on the side. Waiting at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang means writing your name on the shop's glass window in board marker, so booking ahead is the surer move.

We had tickets to the Lotte World Folk Museum, so after looking around we came to the Bangi-dong food alley. What comes to mind when you think of Bangi-dong food alley? For me, it's beef gopchang (grilled beef intestines)! There are so many good gopchang restaurants in Bangi-dong that I always get excited coming here. Today's spot is Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch, famous for its waiting line, known as a good-value gopchang restaurant, and known for generous portions.
How waiting works at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch

Waiting at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch works by writing your name on the shop's glass window with a board marker. Since you can't be away when your name is called, it's best to sit in the chairs set up in front of the shop while you wait. If there aren't enough chairs, you can bring extra ones from inside the store and wait comfortably. But the best way to avoid the Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang wait is still to make a reservation.

The Bangi-dong restaurant that has been on TV
Looking at the front of the restaurant, I saw it's been featured on just about every major food show — Live Tonight, Live Today, Live Information and more. Seeing the lineup of TV appearances made it real: this is a Bangi-dong hotspot known for both the wait and the taste.

Open windows and an outdoor-tent feel inside
The windows at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch are wide open, so even indoors it felt like an outdoor tent (야장) restaurant. It didn't feel stuffy at all, and you could enjoy the outside atmosphere too — perfect for beef gopchang with a shot of soju.

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang menu and prices
Here are the menu prices at this Bangi-dong favorite, Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang.
- Beef gopchang / beef daechang ₩19,000
- Beef makchang ₩20,000
- Dessert menu — kkakdugi yangbap ₩9,000, anchovy noodles ₩6,000

What is the mijeolma sauce at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang?
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang serves a special sauce called 'mijeolma,' made from pickled minari (water dropwort) and garlic. It said to dip not just gopchang but also cabbage, potato, bean sprouts, rice cakes and kimchi into it. Just hearing the name, you know the combination can't be bad.

Seasoned chives, the side that pairs best with gopchang
Gopchang needs chives, of course. They gave us a generous serving of seasoned chive salad. It's tasty eaten plain, and also great lightly grilled on the pan alongside the gopchang.

Three kinds of house-made kimchi
Basic side dishes included house-made green onion kimchi, mustard leaf kimchi, and altari radish kimchi. Staff first showed us the plate of kimchi, then cut it right there with scissors into bite-sized pieces. This kind of generous, no-holding-back kimchi performance was fun to watch.

Free steamed egg, and can you bring a child?
I loved that steamed egg custard came as a standard side. Warm and soft, it was great to eat while waiting for the gopchang to cook, and it also went nicely between bites of spicy kimchi and sauce. Most of all, my kid ate it well, which made me happy.
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch is not a no-kids-zone. That said, with the hot grill plates and the mostly drinking crowd, not many people bring kids along. Still, this mom wanted Bangi-dong beef gopchang so badly that she brought her kid along, haha.

One portion of beef gopchang plus one of beef daechang, mixed to order
We ordered one portion of beef gopchang and one portion of beef daechang. It wasn't the kind of place where you have to order two portions of the same item — you could mix one portion of gopchang and one of daechang, which I liked. If two people visit, you could try two portions first, then add one more portion of whichever you want. When you order more, staff take the grill plate away, cook it separately, and bring it back.

Gopchang and daechang — the two I can never give up, my top 2 beef gopchang cuts, haha. Makchang was a miss this time, but we'll try it next visit.

Isn't beef daechang's fat just so lovable? Haha. Daechang stands out for its soft, fatty richness.

Green onion kimchi grilled right on the plate
Partway through eating the gopchang, they grilled green onion kimchi on the hot plate for us. Cooked in the gopchang fat, the green onion kimchi was a treat on its own. It's popular enough that they sell it to go, 700g for ₩20,000.

Beef gopchang calls for soju — the drinks go down smoothly.

Fat-filled beef gopchang and daechang, grilled by the staff
Our gopchang and daechang arrived. Staff grill it themselves and cut it into bite-sized pieces, so you just wait comfortably. Beef gopchang's texture and flavor can change a lot depending on how it's grilled, so it was great that they checked it right up to the perfectly cooked point.
The gopchang, grilled golden brown, was crisp outside and savory inside. The more you chewed, the deeper the rich gop flavor came through, savory with no off smell at all. The vegetables and rice cakes placed in the center also turned golden and delicious in the gopchang fat. Now all that was left to do was eat!

Eating it with chives and mijeolma sauce
Time to dig in! We ate the gopchang with the chive salad and dipped it generously in the mijeolma sauce. The sauce, made with minari, garlic and chili, cut through the richness of the gopchang, keeping it light and easy to eat right to the end.

Not just the green onion kimchi — the mustard leaf kimchi paired well with beef gopchang too. Eating the potentially rich gopchang and daechang alongside tangy, spicy kimchi kept my palate clean.
Looking at the plump radish in the altari kimchi, then at the equally plump daechang, made me laugh. Daechang's distinctively plump look and the savory fat that spreads in your mouth! If you like the fatty flavor of beef daechang, this is a dish you absolutely can't skip, haha.

The kkakdugi yangbap we ran out of room for
After the gopchang, I really wanted kkakdugi yangbap (diced radish kimchi fried rice) to finish. I'm the type who orders even when full, just to taste it and leave the rest, but my husband talked me out of it. They don't sell plain rice either, so it was awkward to give my kid rice separately, and I wasn't in the mood for anchovy noodles that day either, which made me miss the yangbap even more. Kkakdugi yangbap and makchang will have to wait for the next visit.
Reservations cancel automatically after 15 minutes
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang, a busy Bangi-dong hotspot — reservations are the way to go, haha. Just note that if you're more than 15 minutes late without contacting them, your reservation gets automatically cancelled, so please stick to your reservation time.
Final verdict on Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch is a great spot when you want to enjoy gopchang, daechang and makchang all in one visit in Bangi-dong. Staff grill everything for you so it's easy to eat comfortably, and the side dishes — kimchi, the special sauce, steamed egg — are all well put together. Since it's a busy Bangi-dong hotspot, I'd recommend booking ahead if you can. If you're looking for a place to have drinks with friends in the Bangi-dong food alley, or a good beef gopchang restaurant near Jamsil Station, this one's worth a visit.
