Hwangnidan-gil Korean restaurant with mackerel buckwheat noodles: Goyu

Goyu (고유) is a Korean dining restaurant with hanok charm on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. The writer ate the mackerel perilla-oil buckwheat noodles, the cold pork with gangdoenjang kale ssambap and the eggplant gangjeong with a bottle of Horangi yuzu makgeolli, and both the food and the space were satisfying. Goyu is a place worth revisiting for an atmospheric Korean meal.

Pohang mulhoe restaurant with noodles and rice mixed in: Ppwang Mulhoe

Ppwang Mulhoe is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) restaurant on Haean-ro by Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. The writer ordered the Ppwang Mulhoe 3-combo and the flounder mulhoe, mixed 3 bundles of somyeon noodles and 2 bowls of rice into the broth, and helped themselves to the unlimited self-bar side dishes. Even the broth was good enough that Ppwang Mulhoe is on the list for the next Pohang trip.

Gyeongju museum café tea time with a stroller: Bibibidang

Bibibidang Gyeongju is a café on the first floor of Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. We visited with our six-month-old, Jaei, for Ujeon green tea, dawan coffee, tissue bread, and Snoopy castella after the exhibition. Verdict: an easy, relaxing museum stop with room for a stroller.

Gyeongju Korean restaurant for grilled fish brunch: Handa Sot

Handa Sot Gyeongju is a Korean restaurant in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, serving wood-fired grilled fish and pot-cooked rice. I arrived at opening time and enjoyed the two-person grilled fish set, with eight neat side dishes, lotus-root salad, crisp yet moist fish, and savory scorched rice. Verdict: a satisfying, wholesome meal to share with children.
