Gyeongju museum café tea time with a stroller: Bibibidang

When you travel around Gyeongju, you often end up heading toward the Bomun Tourist Complex. This time, I visited somewhere a little different, where we could enjoy an art museum and a café in one go.

This is Bibibidang Gyeongju, located on the first floor inside Gyeongju's Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art. For parking, you can use the Hilton Hotel parking lot 😎

This visit was the three of us: my wife, me, and our six-month-old baby, Jaei. Since we were traveling with a baby, when choosing a café I found myself checking first whether it was spacious and easy to bring a stroller into. In that respect, Bibibidang was quite satisfying.

It was also really convenient that we could stop by the café on the first floor right after seeing an exhibition at Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art. What made it feel like such a good café to visit alongside the museum was that we did not need to get in the car and go looking for another café. Exhibition → tea and dessert at the café → a relaxed break. Following that route made it a great place to pause midway through our trip.

The interior was roomier than I expected, so it was fine to bring a stroller inside too.

When traveling in Gyeongju with a baby, cramped cafés can make you feel a bit self-conscious. Here, though, there was relatively plenty of room to park the stroller, so it was easy to visit with Jaei.

The menu and a variety of desserts

Ujeon green tea and refills

We each ordered something different. My wife chose the Ujeon green tea.

The tea arrived beautifully presented, along with refreshments made with Korean black sesame powder, so it definitely had a different mood from an ordinary café drink.

Even the teacup looked luxurious. But best of all, the Ujeon green tea came with refills! Rather than having one cup and being done, we could keep enjoying it while chatting at leisure, which made it great for taking a longer break at the café.

I chose something a little unusual: dawan coffee. Even the name is a bit different from a typical coffee menu, right? Dawan coffee is decaf cold brew, and most notably, it is served not in a regular coffee cup but in a large bowl. It felt completely different from the coffee you usually think of at a café.

Maybe because it was served in a dawan (tea bowl), I found myself drinking the coffee slowly, as if it were tea. Since it was decaf, it also felt less burdensome to have in the afternoon, and it came with purple sweet potato and lemon yanggaeng (sweet bean jelly), which were nice to enjoy alongside it.

The yanggaeng had lovely colors and made a great pairing with tea, so it was much more fun than drinking coffee by itself. Bibibidang overall feels like a place to enjoy drinks and refreshments together, so rather than a café where you quickly drink a coffee and leave, it felt closer to a space for sitting down and resting slowly.

Along with the tea and coffee, we added desserts too. They were

This dessert had an impressive look, as though layers of tissue-thin strands had been piled up. You can really see those layers even in the photos, right? It was crisp outside and soft inside, making it good with either tea or coffee.

And the thing that caught my eye most that day was the Snoopy castella.

Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art was holding a Snoopy exhibition, so that seems to be why it had such a cute name, haha. The castella paired better with tea than I expected, and it was a great dessert for photos too. Especially when you visit with a child, I think a cute dessert like this somehow catches your eye even more.

A great place for tea after the museum

What I liked most about this visit was, of course, being able to enjoy both Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art and the café. When you keep going around famous tourist spots on a Gyeongju trip, you get tired more quickly than you might think. Museum visit → a cup of tea at the first-floor café → dessert and a break. Adding a rest stop like that made the trip feel much more relaxed. Especially if you are traveling with a baby like I was, you really need time to sit down and rest here and there.

If you are looking for a Bomun Tourist Complex café in Gyeongju and want somewhere a little special, visit Bibibidang Gyeongju! It has a somewhat different atmosphere from a standard café for an Americano and cake, with the appeal of enjoying tea together with refreshments. Personally, I also loved that the Ujeon green tea can be refilled! Above all, it is easy to combine with a museum visit, and the roomy stroller space makes it a solid café for a Gyeongju trip with a baby too.

Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art → Bibibidang Gyeongju → Ujeon green tea and dawan coffee → dessert → a short break. Our family relaxed this way with Jaei, and having a moment like this in the itinerary made the whole trip feel so much nicer than rushing through tourist attractions alone.
