Gumi bakery café for chewy cream doughnuts: Otters

Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is a large two-story bakery café on Seonsan-daero in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. I tried milk cream and crème brûlée doughnuts, a New York hot dog, peanut latte, and iced Americano, with roomy seating, family facilities, and ample parking. Verdict: come for the doughnuts and stay comfortably awhile.

Gumi Korean restaurant dinner with spicy octopus and bossam: Imgane

Imgane Nakji Bossam is a Korean restaurant in Jinpyeong-dong, Gumi, Gyeongbuk, where spicy stir-fried octopus and bossam come on one table. On this return visit, I ordered Imgane Hansang, a set with tender bossam, garlic sauce, cut-up octopus, abalone porridge, and seaweed soup. Verdict: a great pick for days when I want both spicy octopus and bossam.

Pohang conveyor sushi, 20 plates: Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap

Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant in Munduk, Pohang, Gyeongbuk. During a business trip, I had 20 plates, from chawanmushi to white fish, salmon, red fish, and sides, all for 2,200 won per plate. Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap is a satisfying choice for a generously varied sushi meal at one flat price.
