Yongin Korean restaurant with a kids' menu: Sotbap Hansang

Sotbap Hansang is a pot rice (sotbap) Korean set-meal restaurant on Sangdeok-ro in Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. It was the first meal of a 2-night, 3-day family birthday trip: the adults ordered the jjuosam set with sotbap, the children had the kids' pork cutlet, and everyone refilled sweet pumpkin porridge and salad from the self-serve bar. With high chairs, a kids' menu, a self-serve bar and a large parking lot, Sotbap Hansang was an easy choice for eating out with young children.

Family-friendly jokbal restaurant in Sunae-dong, Seongnam: Wangchang

Wangchang Jokbal is a jokbal (braised pig's trotter) restaurant on Sunae-ro 46beon-gil in Sunae-dong, Seongnam, near Sunae Station and Bundang Central Park. Three generations — grandparents, parents and a child — arrived at 4pm and shared a large jokbal, the complimentary steamed egg that comes with every order, and makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles); the skin was springy and the lean meat tender enough that even parents sensitive to gamey smells ate comfortably. Wangchang Jokbal is an easy choice for a family meal with both young kids and older relatives.

Spicy seafood pork bone stew near Taereung Ipgu Station: Wanttuk

Wanttuk Gamjatang Meokgol Main Branch is a gamjatang (pork bone soup) and braised pork bone restaurant on Dongil-ro in Jungnang, Seoul, between Taereung Ipgu and Meokgol stations. After a drive along Songjeong Beach, the writer stopped in with her toddler and husband and ordered the 9,500 won classic pork cutlet and sizzling iron-plate kimchi fried rice; the staff brought a kids' tray and a yogurt, and the toddler finished a full adult portion alone. Ask for the cheongyang chili paste (cheongyang dadaegi) and spicy sauce, and claim the tender salad through Naver alerts, and the meal at Deli Donkatsu gets even better.

Herbal nurungji chicken restaurant in Seongnam: Jangjakgun Main

The writer ordered the herbal nurungji chicken (21,000 won) with spicy handmade tteokbokki (12,000 won), carbonara buldak noodles (5,000 won) and draft beer at the outdoor patio seats, and the chicken breast — expected to be dry — was among the moistest and most tender the writer has had. Jangjakgun Main Branch is worth a stop around Dandae-ogeori and Jungang-dong on a night for roast chicken and a drink.

Songdo teppan restaurant with cod roe monjayaki and mini beer: Jojo

Jojo Triple Street Branch is an Osaka-style teppan Japanese restaurant on the 1st floor of Building C, Triple Street in Songdo, Incheon. Cod roe monjayaki (savory griddle-cooked batter), yakisoba and the signature okonomiyaki were all cooked right on the tableside griddle and paired with a 200ml Suntory mini draft beer, and the monjayaki tasted much like the version eaten in Tokyo.
