Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is a Western-style pork cutlet (gyeongyangsik donkatsu) restaurant in Gunpo, Gyeonggi, in the back alley of the Sanbon academy district in front of Gwangjeong Elementary School. On this family visit the order was a pork cutlet and udon set, a buckwheat soba and pork cutlet set, a plain udon and a plain pork cutlet, with free rice refills from the self-serve bar. The mushroom soup at Onjeong was creamy enough that even a picky baby kept eating, and one table easily covers both warm-broth and cold-noodle preferences.

The handmade dumpling hot pot for two costs 15,000 won, and ordering it spicy brought steamed dumplings, unlimited self-bar refills of sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) and a cold buckwheat noodle soup for dessert — so much food that the ramen noodle refill went untouched. For anyone who loves sujebi, the Omi Omi self-bar alone is reason enough to drive out here.

Light, tidy Gangwon home cooking that sits easy on the stomach.

Ansan Gojan-dong galbi restaurant: aged LA galbi two ways, Yangsimso

Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch is a charcoal-grilled beef and pork restaurant on Danggok-ro in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. On a weekend evening, two diners ordered the aged LA galbi plate served half raw and half marinated (54,000 won) plus mul naengmyeon (8,000 won), and the plate came with yukhoe and chadol doenjang jjigae included. At Yangsimso the raw LA galbi tasted better than the marinated half, and one plate was the right amount for two people.

With corkage-free drinks, private rooms and group seating, Tonguidong Gukbinkwan works just as well for work dinners as for family gatherings.

With a wide hall and a self-serve bar, Veteran General Fish Market is a good-value sashimi spot worth revisiting for gatherings in Guwol-dong.

Late-night 24-hour Chinese restaurant in Mokdong: Yugwanjang Banjeom

Yugwanjang Banjeom Omokgyo Station Branch is a Chinese restaurant near Omokgyo Station in Mokdong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, open 24 hours every day except Monday night.
