Jeonju grilled pork restaurant with no weekend wait at 5pm: Mongyudo

Mongyudo Sinsigaji Branch is an aged pork belly and pork neck grill restaurant at the entrance of the Sinsigaji main street in Jeonju, Jeonbuk. On a weekend visit at 5pm, the Mongyudo Set for Two (₩43,000) came with pot-fried rice and a bowl of cold noodles from the review event, and a staff member grilled the pre-seared meat at the table, so there was nothing to do but wait and eat. The set for two feels closer to 2.5 servings, so one order is plenty for two people.

Jinsim Wang Donkatsu Cheonan Buldang is a giant pork cutlet restaurant on the first floor of M Tower in Buldang-dong, Cheonan. On a return visit with her 5-year-old, the writer ordered the Jinsim Wang Donkatsu at 10,900 won, shrimp tempura udon at 8,900 won and cold soba (buckwheat noodles) at 8,900 won for 28,700 won total, and all three arrived in under 10 minutes with the sauce served on the side for the child's cutlet. Between the baby chair, kids' tableware, self-serve bar and basement parking, Jinsim Wang Donkatsu Cheonan Buldang is an easy pick for a family meal.

Ilsan Korean restaurant for birthday dinners with free abalone: Haenon

Korean BBQ with SUV parking near Sunae Station: Jeju Monteurak

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Jeju black pork BBQ restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Sunae Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam. Two diners ordered the Jeju Bansang set, which brings ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), pork neck and a seafood doenjang stew, and staff grilled the meat over charcoal at the table. An SUV cannot use the car-elevator garage under the Gratea building, so Jeju Monteurak sends drivers to the Bobos Chervil lot next door; the best bite of the night was ogyeopsal with the shrimp-paste, garlic and sesame oil sauce in a lettuce wrap.

Gyodong, Daegu kalguksu spot with spicy chicken salad: Donggok Jemyeon

Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch is a house-made noodle kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on the first floor of the same building line as Daegu City Center in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu. Two adults and one child arrived right at the 11:30 opening and ate Korean beef bone kalguksu, super-concentrated samgye (chicken) kalguksu, a half plate of gabrisal pork suyuk (boiled pork slices) and dakmuchim (spicy shredded chicken salad) for 44,000 won, with extra bowls of rice free. Of everything on the table at Donggok Jemyeon, the standout was the 9,500 won dakmuchim.
