Yeongildae mulhoe restaurant in Pohang with bone-free flounder: Ppwang
In short
Ppwang Mulhoe (퐝물회) is a mulhoe (raw fish in cold broth) restaurant in a pink building on Haean-ro along Yeongildae beach in Pohang. The flounder mulhoe was not cut sekkoshi-style with the bones in, so bones were barely noticeable, and the self bar added unlimited side dishes, tteokbokki, fried snacks and squid soup. Ppwang Mulhoe fits Pohang travelers who want a generous plate of raw fish and a self bar in one meal.

I wanted good mulhoe (raw fish in cold, seasoned broth) on this Pohang trip, so I headed to Ppwang Mulhoe, a mulhoe spot near Yeongildae. Pohang means mulhoe, right? 😆🌊 I found this place while looking for a good mulhoe restaurant near Yeongildae, and it turned out to be satisfying — good food and a solid self bar too. Let's get into the review!
Where is Ppwang Mulhoe, and what are its hours?
Ppwang Mulhoe is on the 1st floor of 203-1 Haean-ro, Buk-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, right by the Yeongildae seaside. Hours are 10:30–22:00, until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. They also offer group seating, Wi-Fi, reservations, and separate men's/women's restrooms.
The pink building and the "unlimited self bar" sign

The first thing I noticed the moment I arrived was the pink building exterior! The whole place has a pink concept, so it felt kind of cute and bubbly haha 🩷 And right at the entrance, a big sign saying 'unlimited self bar' had me excited before I even walked in!

There were tables outside too, so on a nice day, eating out there would probably feel great. Being so close to the Yeongildae sea, it really gives you that travel feeling.

We arrived early, basically an opening run, and it was still pretty packed! Guess you really do have to be quick haha. The window seats especially, with the ocean view, were something I really coveted. Eating mulhoe while looking at the sea just seems like it'd taste even better 💙
What we ordered at Ppwang Mulhoe: squid mulhoe and flounder mulhoe

Looking at the menu, we ordered squid mulhoe and flounder mulhoe. Since we came to Pohang, we had to have mulhoe!

What's on the self bar at Ppwang Mulhoe?
The self bar at Ppwang Mulhoe had way more side dishes than I expected! There was tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes), fried snacks, squid soup, and even chicken nuggets, so we grabbed everything we wanted without holding back 😋 The variety of side dishes was great, and being able to just go refill yourself whenever something ran low was so convenient. You know that reassuring feeling a self bar gives you, right? Haha.

The tteokbokki had really good sauce, so I kept going back for more, and the fried snacks were crispy, perfect for nibbling on while waiting for the mulhoe.

And then, the squid soup! Wow… this was genuinely delicious. The broth was great, and with squid in there, I just kept scooping spoonful after spoonful!

We came for mulhoe but ended up thoroughly enjoying the self bar food too 🤣
Why the flounder mulhoe has almost no bones to pick

Finally, the flounder mulhoe we'd been waiting for arrived!
It looked generous right from the visual, and the portion of raw fish was really substantial. What I especially liked was that it wasn't cut sekkoshi-style, so the bones barely bothered me. Sometimes eating mulhoe means fussing with picking out bones, but here I could just eat comfortably, which I really appreciated haha.

The tangy-sweet, ice-cold mulhoe broth paired really well with the ingredients. It wasn't too sharp, but it woke up my appetite in a way that kept my spoon moving haha.

We also mixed the rice that came with it right into the mulhoe, and stirred it all together… that turned out to be another treat haha. With the rice soaking up that tangy-sweet broth, it felt hearty too, so I ate happily right to the last bite 💕

If you've made it all the way to Yeongildae on a Pohang trip, you've got to check out the sea too 💙 After a delicious bowl of mulhoe, catching the cool sea breeze really made it feel like a proper trip haha.
Is Ppwang Mulhoe in Pohang worth a visit?
Overall, I'd recommend Ppwang Mulhoe to anyone looking for a good restaurant near Yeongildae! The generous portion of raw fish was great, but I especially loved the self bar with everything from side dishes to tteokbokki, fried snacks, squid soup, and chicken nuggets. If you're hunting for mulhoe in Pohang's Duho-dong or want a proper bowl of mulhoe near Yeongildae, it's worth stopping by 🫶 I left having thoroughly enjoyed a tangy-sweet, ice-cold broth with a generous squid mulhoe and flounder mulhoe 🐙🌊💕
