Jeonpo sashimi restaurant with caramel popcorn starter: Rigo Susan
In short
Rigo Susan Jeonpo Station Main Branch is a set-platter sashimi restaurant on Jeonpo-daero 216beon-gil in Busanjin, Busan. Visiting on a weekday after work, the writer ordered the small mixed sashimi set at 49,000 won plus a 10,000 won beer, and the caramel popcorn served as a free starter, the cold udon side and the fried food with tartar sauce were the standouts. Rigo Susan suits anyone who likes sashimi sliced thin and eats salmon.

Partly self-funded visit.
Rigo Susan, a two-minute walk from Jeonpo Station Exit 8

A Jeonpo bar-district sashimi spot near Seomyeon that I visited straight after work — Rigo Susan. The big windows were wide open so you just walk right in, and the storefront was decorated for what seemed to be live shrimp season. But I was there for sashimi.

Seating and waiting time at Rigo Susan

Inside, tables were mostly 2-seaters and 4-seaters, if I remember right, and they can be pushed together so group visits shouldn't be a problem. The whole concept here is a set spread served on a big tray, so I wondered if the 2-seater tables might feel a bit tight for that . . .
There were quite a lot of tables, so I'd guess there's no wait even on weekends! I went on a weekday, though.
Why the free starter at Rigo Susan is caramel popcorn

Rigo Susan's basic side dish is caramel popcorn, served in a paper cup — it was so good I just kept munching it as a drinking snack . . . reminded me of the caramel popcorn they sell at the movies.

Mixed sashimi set / beer

The mains were gizzard shad sashimi, mixed sashimi, and shrimp, and I went with mixed sashimi. A big tray comes out with a variety of basic side dishes — the kind of spread where even people who aren't big on raw fish can come along and still find something to eat, I felt.
What comes with the set: side dishes and extra orders

Corn cheese, cold udon, fried food, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), rolls — a mix that wanders somewhere between Korean snack food and Japanese-style dishes(?). If you want more, you can order extra through the tablet!
They're not part of the default spread, but you can order soy crab and braised fish in the extra sides section, and there was also a sample-size mul-hoe (cold raw fish soup) sold separately on the side menu — worth knowing.
+) The sample mul-hoe was also available as part of a review event
+) The spicy fish stew was also available through a review event!

You drizzle chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) over the cabbage, and the cold udon was totally my taste. I finally discovered the appeal of cold udon rather than cold buckwheat noodles . . . this was genuinely delicious . . . haha.
The fried food went perfectly with the tartar sauce served alongside. I'd recommend dipping it instead of just eating it plain.
+) This sauce was going to come in handy for other things too . . .
The small mixed sashimi set, with salmon always in the mix

The mixed sashimi set came in small, medium, and large — or maybe it was split by 2, 3, or 4 people, I don't quite remember, sorry! Anyway, I ordered the smallest size and got three kinds mixed together. The mix probably changes daily, but from other reviews it seems salmon is a fixed part of it.

Since the set includes salmon, if you can't (or don't) eat it, you might want to go to a different sashimi restaurant or check in advance. My friend doesn't eat salmon, so I ended up eating it all myself. Didn't expect salmon to show up . . .
Sushi rice is provided too, so you can top it with whatever sashimi you like and make your own sushi! Of course, this can also be ordered as an extra ~ At this point, a sashimi restaurant without sushi rice on offer feels like it's missing something.

The white kimchi had basically no flavor, which threw me a bit, but there's wasabi and soy sauce to help. And the salmon was also great dipped in that tartar sauce from earlier!
The sashimi wasn't thick-cut, so this is a spot that thin-slice lovers would especially appreciate. That's the end of my review of Rigo Susan, a Jeonpo bar-district sashimi restaurant near Seomyeon.
