These days there are moments I crave a home-style Korean meal — warm rice and neat side dishes — more than something spicy or heavy.

What two people ordered: Tteuranchae Bap for two plus domestic yellow crab soy crab

There were two of us, so we ordered the basic set for two, Tteuranchae Bap, along with a single order of domestic soy-marinated crab.

There was a wide range of basic set menus, full-course menus, and single dishes. The basic set came with warm pressure-pot rice, savory cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), and an array of side dishes, all neatly laid out to fill the whole table.

How does pot rice from same-day-milled yellow rice taste?

This place is especially known for milling its own yellow rice (hwangmi) every morning and cooking with rice milled that same day. They even sell the rice separately, which shows just how much pride they take in it.

The rice is pressure-cooked to order, so the moment they opened the lid, the warm smell of fresh rice was wonderful.

The glossy grains were chewy with a nutty flavor that came through — the kind of rice you could eat on its own and still call delicious. They first scooped the rice out into a separate bowl.

Then they poured water into the pot, closed the lid, and let it soak — after the meal, it would turn into scorched rice for us to finish with. Seeing that savory pot rice, I felt once again that in a Korean set meal, the rice being good makes the whole spread taste even better.

Side dishes, cheonggukjang and what's on the self-service corner

A variety of side dishes made with fresh ingredients came out on the table. I liked that the flavors weren't all one note — from seasoned greens to various other banchan, we got to taste a little bit of everything.

Each side dish was made simply and cleanly, like home cooking, and paired well with the rice.

The cheonggukjang in particular had a deep, savory flavor — paired with a warm spoonful of yellow rice, it felt like it warmed me up from the inside.

Eating the side dishes alongside the cheonggukjang, the balance of flavors was really good. The hot cheonggukjang was filling too.

And aside from the main dishes, there were various other side dishes set up for extra servings.

At the self-service corner, there were a few extra side dishes that hadn't been on the original table, so we could take as much as we wanted, little by little, and there were also drinks like plum tea available.

Being able to eat generously from start to finish without ever feeling short-changed was one of the things I liked about this Sinjung-dong Korean restaurant.

Is the domestic yellow crab soy-marinated crab really a 'rice thief'?

And then the domestic soy-marinated crab I'd been looking forward to! Opening up the crab, the pale flesh inside was packed in generously, and it looked delicious even before I tasted it.

One bite in, the crab meat was so soft it seemed to melt in my mouth, and there was a subtle sweetness to it too.

The shell wasn't hard either, and the meat packed inside was so soft it practically melted away.

Eating the salty soy crab together with the warm yellow rice was, in a word, a rice thief — the kind of dish that steals your appetite for rice.

The soy crab alone tasted like it could finish off a bowl of rice in no time, so if you want to add something a little more special to your Korean set meal, it's worth ordering.

Finishing the meal with scorched rice from the pressure pot

After finishing the delicious side dishes and the soy crab, we wrapped up the meal with the scorched rice that had been soaking in water in the pressure pot. Even though I was already full, a spoonful of the warm, nutty scorched rice just kept going down easily.

After a hearty Korean meal, finishing with the savory scorched rice felt like it cleaned up the palate nicely too.

From the pressure-pot rice made with same-day-milled yellow rice, to the neatly prepared side dishes, the savory cheonggukjang, and the generously packed domestic soy crab — I was able to enjoy each part fully, and it was satisfying.

Above all, it felt like a healthy meal made with fresh ingredients rather than anything too strong-flavored, so my stomach felt comfortable even after eating. With a spacious hall as well as private rooms and group seating, and convenient parking, it was a Bucheon set-meal spot that suited a meal with parents, a family gathering, or hosting elders.
