Seoul Korean restaurant, 20-minute Saturday gopchang wait: Jinseong
In short
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch is a hanwoo beef gopchang (grilled beef intestines) restaurant on the Bangi food alley in Songpa, Seoul, where the windows are thrown open for an open-air drinking-street mood indoors. On a Saturday evening the wait was about 20 minutes, and the meal ran from beef gopchang through makchang and daechang, all grilled at the table by staff and dipped in the house minjeolma sauce. Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is the place to remember when a cool evening calls for gopchang and a drink.

Today I was mulling over dinner options on Bangi food alley when I spotted Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch! The weather's been so nice lately that I wanted that outdoor-drinking-tent feel with gopchang (grilled beef intestines) and a drink, so in I went. Started with 2 servings of gopchang, but it was so good I ended up adding makchang and daechang too — let's go!
What's on the menu at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch?

- Beef gopchang ₩19,000
- Beef daechang ₩19,000
- Beef makchang ₩20,000
- Kkakdugi fried rice ₩9,000
- Anchovy noodles ₩6,000
How long was the Saturday evening wait?
True to its reputation as a Bangi food alley favorite, there was a wait on the weekend. I arrived around 6:20pm on a Saturday, and with about three parties ahead of me, I waited roughly 20 minutes before getting in!

The wait system involved writing your name on the list posted outside and waiting nearby. They don't call you, so you just sit on the chairs out front and wait.

Even around 8pm, when we were finishing up and heading out, there was still a wait — so weekend evenings clearly get busy. I'd recommend visiting with a bit of buffer time!
Open windows and the drinking-street mood of Bangi food alley

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch has its windows wide open like this, so it really catches your eye as you walk by.

It's not quite full outdoor seating, but the outside air flowing in gave it that outdoor-pocha feel even though we were indoors, and I loved that it kept the lively energy of Bangi food alley intact. Now that the weather's turned pleasantly cool, this feels like the perfect spot on Bangi food alley for that outdoor-drinking-tent vibe ••

On top of that, the basic side dishes came with a set of three house-made kimchi. Eating kimchi between bites of greasy foods like gopchang and daechang cleared the palate nicely — a great combo.

Staff-grilled hanwoo beef gopchang and the minjeolma dipping sauce
First orders start at 2 servings minimum, so we began with 2 servings of beef gopchang!!
A staff member grilled the gopchang for us, and once it was cooked, they even cut it into bite-sized pieces for us — so easy to eat. Gopchang can get too chewy or burn easily if grilled wrong, but since they grilled it for us, all we had to do was wait and enjoy 😋

The gopchang, browned just right, was savory and chewy, with the fatty parts coming through well too — satisfying from the very first order.

And just as memorable as the gopchang itself — the minjeolma sauce! It's Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang's special sauce made with minari (water celery) and pickled garlic, and dipping the gopchang or daechang in it cut through the richness while adding extra savory depth. Personally, the gopchang itself was delicious, but this sauce was the real kick ••^^

Originally I only planned to have the 2 servings of gopchang, but it was so good that I ended up ordering one serving each of beef makchang and beef daechang too (^^). The makchang had a chewier bite to it, while the daechang had that distinctively soft, slightly rich texture with deep savoriness.
All three were genuinely above average, so even full, I just kept eating

Of course the gopchang itself was delicious, but everything else was satisfying too — the tableside grilling-and-cutting service, the minjeolma sauce, the trio of house kimchi. With the windows thrown wide open giving it that outdoor-pocha atmosphere, this feels like the place to remember for a drink on a nice day on Bangi food alley. If you're looking for a gopchang spot on Bangi food alley, or a weekend-evening-worth-the-wait restaurant in Bangi-dong, you won't regret it..
