Yongin shabu-kalguksu restaurant with red broth: Yun Ujae
In short
Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-kalguksu restaurant in Yongin, Gyeonggi. I ordered the medium-spicy red broth, extra sirloin, flat kalguksu, house-made noodles, and cheese fried rice. Verdict: a generous, great-value choice for dining out with a baby, family, or a group.

A Yongin Suji shabu-kalguksu spot I’ve visited many times with my baby
Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch (윤우재 샤브칼국수 고기동점), a great restaurant in Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin, is somewhere I’ve visited many times because it’s so good for going with a baby :) It gets both the flavor and value right.
3 Gogiro 173beon-gil, Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Open daily 11:10–20:50, with a weekday break from 15:00–16:30. Last orders are at 20:00, and there is no break time on weekends or public holidays.

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu is in Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin. It is a standalone restaurant, with plenty of parking in front and along the side, so it is convenient to visit by car.

There are not quite as many parking spaces as there are seats inside. If it is full on weekdays, you will need to park on the roadside where the child-protection-zone restriction is lifted and walk up. On weekends and public holidays, you can park at the daycare across the street.
How does the waitlist work?

It is a popular place with lots of waiting, so there is a Catchtable kiosk at the entrance. You register for the waitlist through Catchtable, fill out an order slip, and hand it to the counter. There are chairs near the entrance where you can wait, but there is also a separate customer waiting room farther inside. Such a thoughtful space for people waiting!
A comfortable interior for family meals and group gatherings

The restaurant is large and comfortable. Its clean interior makes it a nice setting for family meals and group gatherings. There is also a sectioned-off area that feels like a private room. They have plenty of high chairs too, making it great for a visit with a baby.
What comes with shabu-kalguksu and choosing a broth

The main menu at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu is shabu-kalguksu.

For ₩11,500 per person, you get sirloin, vegetables and mushrooms, house-made kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and fried rice!!!!!!!!! What incredible value.. You can choose red broth (medium or spicy) or white broth (mild, medium, or spicy). The red broth is their signature: beef-bone stock with the savory, pleasantly spicy depth of taeyangcho red pepper. The white broth is a light, clear one with wonderful savory flavor from anchovies and kelp, they say. I had always ordered white broth because I came with my child, but this time I came without my child, so I ordered the medium red broth. Plus extra sirloin, too :)
Starting with flat kalguksu in red broth

The shabu-kalguksu arrived quickly after ordering. It really is such a generous spread :)

Because I added meat, the sirloin portion was seriously generous too—and the table was full in no time.

Instructions for enjoying it are placed at every table, so have a read!

Only fresh geotjeori cabbage kimchi comes as standard, but there is kkakdugi cubed radish kimchi at the self-service bar, so definitely go get some!! It is so good.

If you want chili paste in the soy-based dipping sauce, they give you a generous amount. (This sauce is seriously delicious too..!!)

They told us to call a staff member once the broth boiled. They pull apart and add the flat kalguksu one sheet at a time. (These flat noodles are absolutely amazing...)

Once the broth boiled, a staff member personally pulled apart the flat kalguksu and added it to the pot, one sheet at a time. After about two minutes, they said to wrap a piece of meat and vegetables in each sheet and eat it together. Wow... a flat noodle with meat, minari (water parsley), and mushrooms, soaked in sauce for one big bite—so delicious.. What is this combination..!!!

As I ate, I wanted more vegetables, so I ordered extra mushrooms and minari..!!

House-made kalguksu and cheese fried rice
Once you have eaten a bit, in go the kalguksu noodles! The noodles in particular were so good—perhaps because they are kneaded and aged in the noodle-making room. They were chewy and different from ordinary kalguksu noodles. The flat kalguksu was delicious, but the regular kalguksu noodles were also really good.

I was full, but fried rice is impossible to resist.. You can stir-fry it yourself :) I added cheese to the fried rice too... and what more is there to say about cheese with fried rice? There was plenty of cheese, and it went so well with the rice..!! Adding cheese to the fried rice is essential ^__^ The two of us had shabu-kalguksu for two plus extra meat, and we were so full.. The portions are big, the value is truly excellent, and it is a genuinely great restaurant. I recommend it for family gatherings, group meals, and eating out with a baby.
