Weekend day trip from Seoul for pyongyang naengmyeon at Seoul Myeonok
In short
Seoul Myeonok is a pyongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant near Pyeongtaek Station in Gyeonggi, run by the same family for three generations over 60 years. Traveling from Seoul just for this bowl, the writer had pyongyang naengmyeon for ₩11,000 and a plate of domestic pork belly bossam for ₩30,000, and both the milky broth topped with pear, egg garnish and green onion, and the chewy pork were satisfying. Seoul Myeonok is recommended for anyone chasing affordable pyongyang naengmyeon plus a solid pork platter.

From Seoul to Pyeongtaek, all for one bowl of naengmyeon
The first place Dulgi ever tried pyongyang naengmyeon (Pyongyang-style cold buckwheat noodles) at was so good she went back three times and kept saying she wanted to take me there. Back then I'd never even tried pyongyang naengmyeon and had zero interest — but recently I had my first taste and it was so good I keep craving it now, haha😅
Since I'd been going around looking for naengmyeon spots in Seoul, she said that Pyeongtaek place was seriously good and we should go, so a few weeks ago on a weekend we made the trip from Seoul to Pyeongtaek purely for this one bowl of naengmyeon lol. Here's the review.

Seoul Myeonok sits right near Exit 1 of Pyeongtaek Station on the ground floor, so it's really easy to find. Seeing it advertised as a three-generation, 60-year-old restaurant made me even more curious about how good the food must be to have lasted this long right by the station.

An interior full of history, ordering via table kiosk
The inside felt just as weathered with time as the exterior — the kind of cozy spot you'd find in a market near your grandmother's countryside home. Ordering and payment are all done through the kiosk attached to each table.

The basic side dishes were raw fish salad (hoemuchim), spicy fresh kimchi (geotjeori), pickled radish strips (mumallaengi muchim), and pickled radish wraps (ssammu). Once we ordered the bossam, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), salted shrimp, sliced garlic, and sliced chili also arrived.

Domestic pork belly bossam, full plate ₩30,000
🧾 Domestic pork belly bossam (full plate) ₩30,000 / 🧾 Domestic pork belly bossam (half plate) ₩16,000. The full plate came out piled high with meat — plenty to fill up three people even alongside the naengmyeon.

The pork belly must have been boiled carefully, because the meat itself was super tender and the skin on the outside was wonderfully chewy. It's great on its own, but wrapped with kimchi, salted shrimp, ssamjang, garlic, and chili it's 👍🏻 This place is absolutely a bossam destination.

Pyongyang naengmyeon for ₩11,000, almost a full bowl's worth
🧾 Pyongyang naengmyeon ₩11,000. Look at that portion — I haven't tried a ton of naengmyeon places, but this was the cheapest and most generous one I've seen. It practically filled the whole bowl.

The broth was extremely milky, and the bowl was loaded with noodles, meat, pear, pickled radish, egg garnish, and green onion. I especially loved that the pear was cut into big chunks, almost like sliced radish👍🏻

Noodles as chewy as jjolmyeon
The noodles were thick and springy enough that they almost reminded me of jjolmyeon (chewy noodles). Judging by the huge stacks of buckwheat flour sacks piled against one wall, they seem to make the noodles in-house.

They apparently work hard to make the broth in the traditional way, refreshing and clean, and it really showed — good and deep in meaty flavor, and just salty enough. Getting pyongyang naengmyeon of this quality for ₩11,000 felt like real value for money. A price you'd never see in Seoul😂

Straight back to Seoul after eating, a one-hour round trip
Since we'd literally come all the way from Seoul just for this naengmyeon, once we finished eating we headed straight to the intercity bus stop without any lingering, lol. Setting foot in Pyeongtaek for exactly one hour before heading back to Seoul😁 If you're craving pyongyang naengmyeon in Pyeongtaek, this is a place I'd recommend without hesitation. My tip: definitely order the bossam too!
