Centum City cheesecake shop for a baby's 2-month photo: Sijeunikeu

In short

Sijeunikeu is a seasonal fresh-fruit cake shop on basement level 1 of Shinsegae Department Store's Centum City branch in Haeundae, Busan. For a self-shot 2-month baby photo, a mini whole-mango cream basque cheesecake was packed to go from Sijeunikeu, topped with number candles after several failed takes of the candle-blowing video. The whole-mango cream basque tastes like dense cheesecake with fresh mango alongside, and the mini size is an easy fit for a small celebration at home.

Sijeunikeu whole-mango cream basque cheesecake

If you're craving a cake piled high with fresh seasonal fruit, head to Sijeunikeu on the basement floor of Shinsegae Department Store Centum City, right by Centum City Station. I first stumbled onto this place for a family birthday and loved it so much I gifted it again for a friend's birthday. This time I stopped by for a different reason: a self-shot 2-month baby photoshoot.

Where is Sijeunikeu in Shinsegae Centum City?

Sijeunikeu sits on the basement floor of Shinsegae Centum City, near the Starbucks. The showcase out front, packed with vivid fresh-fruit cakes, is hard to walk past without staring.

Which fruit cakes are in season at Sijeunikeu?

Sijeunikeu's signature is fruit cakes loaded with seasonal fresh fruit! In winter it was mango and strawberry, last season mango and melon, and this time around they had fig, peach, and mango.

Pink-toned fresh peach cake

Such a pretty pink peach cake. You can tell just by looking that the peaches were good ones.

The mango cake never disappoints. It seems to stick around from winter all the way through midsummer, while the other fruits rotate with the seasons.

Why the mini whole-mango cream basque?

I'd only ever had the fresh-fruit-topped cakes at this Centum City Station cake shop before, but today I spotted something new: a cheesecake called whole-mango cream basque. Since this trip was mainly about the baby photoshoot and not a full-on party, I didn't need a big cake — the mini whole-mango cream basque was the perfect size!

The vanilla fig cake, only available during the short fig season, kept catching my eye, but my partner isn't really a fig person so I had to pass... I really want to try it next time, but by then the figs will probably be long gone.

Number candles and packaging at Sijeunikeu

Next to the register they sell cute number and birthday candles too. A happy day just isn't complete without a cake, and one small cute decoration is really all it takes to make a moment feel meaningful.

People traveling further seemed to add an insulated bag, but since I was only 15 minutes away, I just went with the regular packaging.

I raced home with the green box, heart racing — not because I couldn't wait to eat it, but because I couldn't wait to start the photoshoot...(?)

How we shot the 2-month baby photo at home

The whole point of buying this Sijeunikeu cake today was the 2-month baby self-photoshoot! I stuck in two cute candles — one for each month.

Cake with a number 2 candle

Just like all those videos on Instagram: set the cake up in front, have the baby pop into frame, blow out the candles, and disappear again.

Setup for the 2-month baby self-photoshoot

So the baby pops in, blows out the candle, and vanishes — except babies get heavier and heavier, and it's not that easy haha. After several failed takes, we finally got it, though the candles were a lot shorter by then.

What does Sijeunikeu's whole-mango cream basque taste like?

Hard to say whether the photoshoot or the eating was really the main event, but with the shots done, it was time to dig in. True to its name, the whole-mango cream basque has plump fresh mango piled on top, with a dense, rich cheesecake underneath.

Look at that soft cross-section! Even a light press with the fork cuts through it easily. Unlike the other cakes overflowing with fresh fruit, this one is more about a rich, soft cheesecake paired with fresh fruit on the side.

If you want the fresh, signature Sijeunikeu experience, go for one of the fruit cakes piled with whatever fresh fruit you like. If you want something dense and rich but never greasy, paired with fresh fruit, go for the cheesecake. I loved both.

The whole-mango cream basque from Sijeunikeu, the cake shop by Centum City Station, was great for enjoying a good cheesecake in a size that doesn't feel like too much. Under the excuse of celebrating our baby's 2-month mark, the evening turned into a happy one for the adults' taste buds haha. When you've got something good to celebrate, I highly recommend doing it with a Sijeunikeu cake.
