Suwon Korean BBQ restaurant with kids: Taejang Sikdang
In short
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant near Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. We had 4 mm frozen pork belly, bibim noodles, and fried rice with the kids, and especially loved how quickly the pork cooked and the grilled scallion-kimchi wraps. Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a great pick for a family meal—and I’d happily return for drinks next time.

We came to Taejang Sikdang near Suwon Station because my eldest wanted frozen pork belly. I thought it would be an ordinary frozen-pork-belly place, but the moment we opened the door, the interior felt like stepping back into the 2000s—and it completely stole my husband’s heart.
The retro wallpaper and scenes from old broadcasts playing on a CRT TV-shaped screen made the era feel even more vivid. It’s a nostalgic little gem of a restaurant.

The Exterior and Retro Interior Near Suwon Station

Taejang Sikdang is on the second floor across from Hanshin Pocha near Suwon Station. Go up the stairs beside the photo studio to find the entrance.

As soon as the door opened, we saw an arcade machine and all the things I remembered from stationery shops as a child: colorful balls, hula hoops, a red piggy bank, and a retro fan! Our eyes went wide right away, and I think we were too busy looking around to sit down.

The most fascinating part was the CRT TV built into the retro wallpaper. Sweet old songs I heard when I was very little came on, along with songs by Shin Hae-chul from the University Song Festival, which my husband loved most. It really stirred up his memories.

The tables were spacious, and although we visited on a Sunday, the place was bustling with diners.
Taejang Sikdang Menu and What We Ordered

The signature dishes are the 4 mm frozen pork belly—called “You won’t gain weight if it’s thin!!”—for ₩11,000, and 6 mm fresh pork belly for ₩14,000.
- 3 servings of 4 mm frozen pork belly
- Cheese steamed egg, ₩4,000
- Clam soft tofu stew, ₩5,000
- Taejang bibim noodles, ₩4,000
- 1 serving of 6 mm fresh pork belly
- Taejang fried rice, ₩4,000

After ordering, a spread of side dishes arrived, all perfect with the meat.

4 mm Frozen Pork Belly and Scallion-Kimchi Wraps
Here are our three servings of 4 mm frozen pork belly.

A staff member grilled the first batch for us. It felt so nice to be treated to that at a frozen-pork-belly restaurant!! 😁

A nostalgic plastic bowl held fresh lettuce, perilla leaves, and Cheongyang chili peppers. We piled on pickled peppers, bracken fern, and plenty of meat from the side dishes, then made a ssam (leaf wrap). There was absolutely no frozen-pork smell—just savory meat! I totally approve of this Suwon Station pork belly 👍

And you absolutely, absolutely have to grill the scallion kimchi from the side dishes and wrap it with the meat. I strongly recommend this! We only discovered it when my husband grilled some scallion kimchi near the end. If you visit, grill it early and try it with the meat 🙏
How Were the Side Dishes?
Cheese steamed egg, ₩4,000. Fluffy cheese sat on top, adding that savory, stretchy-cheese goodness to the steamed egg.

Clam soft tofu stew, ₩5,000. We ordered it because we wanted a spicy, warming broth, and it tasted exactly like a classic clam soft tofu stew. With soft tofu, egg, and vegetables in the clam broth, it had that exact familiar flavor of the stew I used to order at Gimbap Cheonguk.

Taejang bibim noodles, ₩4,000. The noodles were so springy I wondered if they were instant ramen noodles, and the young radish greens were crisp, but the sauce did not taste like the bibim noodles we normally eat. Taejang Sikdang’s own secret seasoning made these bibim noodles a wonderfully refreshing counterpoint to the richness of the frozen pork belly.

My younger child, who suddenly said they wanted just one bite, happily ate Taejang bibim noodles until the very end without putting down the chopsticks. Taejang bibim noodles were tasty enough for a four-year-old to enjoy—highly recommended!!

6 mm Fresh Pork Belly and Fried Rice to Finish
One serving of 6 mm fresh pork belly. We were already full, but I still wanted to try it. Since it is definitely thicker than the 4 mm frozen pork belly, it takes a little longer to cook!!

A thickness comparison between the 4 mm frozen pork belly and 6 mm fresh pork belly!! Haha, personally, I preferred the 4 mm frozen pork belly because its texture and bite came through more clearly!!

Taejang fried rice, ₩4,000. You might think, “Why is fried rice so expensive?” I did too. But you have to finish with fried rice, right?? Taejang Sikdang puts kimchi-and-meat fried rice on the grill. It was packed with kimchi and meat, and even though I was full, I just couldn’t stop reaching for another spoonful.
Final Thoughts on Visiting with Kids
I thought the crowds might make the kids uncomfortable, but the 4 mm frozen pork belly cooked so quickly that we had no trouble during the meal. Everyone in the family was so busy making and eating wraps at the speed the meat cooked!
What I loved most was the atmosphere, absolutely full of retro charm. Between the music playing as we grilled and the uniforms the staff wore, my husband was already deep in nostalgia. I didn’t know this, but he said the staff uniforms were old professional baseball uniforms. During the meal, the two of us happily got carried away with old stories and songs! We promised that next time, we’d leave the kids behind and come back for a drink 😝
I recommend Taejang Sikdang near Suwon Station for delicious frozen pork belly and memories that come flooding back, too 👍👍
