One-line review
Perfect grilling, perfect straw-fire aroma, and side dishes that completely overwhelm the palate 👍
I kept passing by thinking, oh, a new BBQ place opened here, just window-shopping it for a while until I finally set a date to go. And honestly... why didn't I come sooner? Shame on me for putting it off! The place that made me kick myself is Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch.

What is the restaurant like inside?

The exterior of Jipbul Taebaek is flashier than expected. Yellow lighting gives it a warm feel, and props emphasizing the straw-fire theme are set out front, so it really stands out!

Inside, the dining room is huge with tons of tables, but the tables themselves are so big that two people can sit and basically feel like they rented the whole place. There are pillars here and there because of the ventilation hoods, which end up dividing the tables into little territories, like a land-grab game.

What impressed me was how the space is dotted with these quaint, old-fashioned little props. Must be the owner's personal taste, and I feel like it'd give parents plenty to talk about if you brought them along — so charming.

And judging by the wall covered in autographs from all sorts of celebrities, the owner is clearly a total social butterfly. There were a lot of athlete signatures, so my partner got excited going 'huh?! wait, huh?!' playing spot-the-celebrity.

And this is the area where the straw-fire pre-searing happens — a shame I didn't get to see it done live, but you can taste just how much care the owner puts into grilling the meat.
Table setting and the banchan lineup
Hungry yet? They give you a generous spread of side dishes. How much, you ask?

This much.

Wait, what is this?! The banchan lineup is genuinely great, and the taste is unquestionably good too. Unlike your typical side dishes, they give you labor-intensive japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), plus two kinds of pesto for dipping the meat — angelica and neungi mushroom pesto, both absolutely delicious, so my chopsticks kept going back for more.

On the left is my partner's top-pick banchan, japchae; on the right is my top pick, a salad. But wait, there's more? Garlic flakes on top. Just that one extra touch really brings the flavor alive.

Still not satisfied? They'll give you tteok wraps (rice cake sheets) to wrap the meat in and try (what kind of place gives you all this?!)
Still not satisfied? They'll give you kimchi and gosari (fernbrake) namul to grill alongside the meat. Oh my, this gosari was seriously amazing. My partner and I grilled it up and both went 'ooh~' at the taste. Nutty, savory umami, top marks.
The menu and how straw-fire grilling works

At Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch, the meat is pre-seared over charcoal and then smoked over straw fire to add flavor before it reaches your table — so of course it's delicious.
Straw-fired pork belly (170g), 17,000 won

Wondering why the pork belly comes out looking like that as soon as it arrives?! It's because it's pre-seared over straw fire!

Even on the grill, that gorgeous straw-fire aroma lingers subtly, making it even tastier, and the staff explain in detail and kindly which banchan to eat it with for maximum flavor, which made the meal even better.

The juiciness in the meat is insane, and once the pink flesh hidden beneath the straw-smoked exterior shows through, you can really confirm the high quality of this meat.

On top of that, grilling the side-dish kimchi and gosari along with mushrooms and eating it all in one bite — wow, truly a delicious mouthful.
Guacamole tortilla, 9,000 won: the receipt-review freebie

This is the dish you get free if you write a Naver receipt review; ordering it separately costs ₩9,000. We both love tacos and guacamole so we ordered it — and wow, what is this? This is completely Mexico!!!!! Olé!!!
The flavor just explodes. You get this for free just by writing a Naver receipt review? Why haven't you done it yet?! It's so good you absolutely have to order it.

Layer the guacamole underneath, meat on top, add the tomato sauce that comes alongside — this right here is mimi (beautiful flavor).
The real favorite: Taebaek kimchi stew, 7,000 won
If you've read this far, you might think, ah, so she really enjoyed the tortilla. But there's another dish I truly loved...🐷

It comes out filling an entire earthenware pot, and it's only ₩7,000, rice included.
The portion is genuinely huge — looking at it from the side, this pot is really big..! And no matter how much you scoop out, more good stuff keeps appearing, like a magic pot.
It looks like just an ordinary kimchi stew on the surface, but the meat, tofu, and kimchi are in a golden ratio that really excites the palate — and it's not too salty either, just an explosion of umami. Even writing this now, my mouth is watering...

My partner, who's been with me over 7 years, said his eyes went O_O — he'd never seen me shovel down kimchi stew like that. Next time, this is a must-order too. Guess that makes it an official chubby day, gotta wear elastic-waist pants. Anyway, it's so good — total upvote!!!
