Babymoon meal at a Busan Station milmyeon restaurant: Yeongdong

I was leisurely looking into a babymoon trip abroad when I realized — wait, am I already in my third trimester?? I panicked thinking I'd give birth before we even got to go anywhere, so we rushed off on a Busan trip instead. How rushed was it? I booked the KTX at dawn the night before we left, then booked our accommodation once we got there, haha, ugh. I've always lived as a hardcore planner type, but this trip got an extra dose of my husband's spontaneous style, which honestly made it more fun.

How close is Yeongdong Milmyeon to Busan Station?

Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap Busan Station Branch is right in front of you as you exit Busan Station — past Ijaemo Pizza, in the building right next to it. It's less than a minute's walk from Busan Station, making it a solid, filling meal option for the day you arrive or the day you leave. I'd meant to go on the first day, but ended up going right before boarding the train home on the last day instead.

Take the escalator up and it's right there on your right — Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap! Busan is famous for both milmyeon and pork soup, and being able to get both in one place is such a win~~

Can you eat at Yeongdong Milmyeon with suitcases?

There's plenty of room to keep your luggage while you eat at Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap, so you can have a relaxed meal! Being so close to Busan Station, a lot of people probably come through with heavy, bulky suitcases — no worries here. On your first day of travel, I think it's better to find a clean, spacious restaurant nearby and eat something energizing rather than chase down some famous old-school spot. The tables are spaced out generously too, which was great for eating comfortably with a stiff, achy body from travel!

The menu includes mul milmyeon, bibim milmyeon, dumplings (great as a side, 10 pieces for ₩7,000), and warm, filling dishes like dwaeji gukbap (pork soup), sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup), suyuk baekban (boiled pork set meal), and suyuk (boiled pork) — great with drinks too!

On a trip, you've got to eat a lot of good stuff — if you're trying to hit every restaurant on your list, you basically need 5-6 meals a day. If you go to a milmyeon place and a gukbap place separately, you have to skip one. That's when a place like Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap, where you can get both in one spot, saves you time and lets you taste Busan in one sitting — strategic eating~!

Is one hour before your train enough time?

The food at Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap came out faster than I expected! It's a great spot for a quick meal in the leftover time after booking your train. My husband prefers a real meal over snacking, so with an hour left before our train, we decided to grab food here. Since it's less than a minute to Busan Station from here, it's ideal mobility-wise for travelers who are worn out and weighed down with luggage after coming from far away. Eat well, then start your trip.

Our last meal before heading back to Seoul ~ the atmosphere, cleanliness, menu, and prices were all just right and solid, and I felt really glad we ended up at Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap.

Suyuk baekban: boiled pork set meal

The suyuk baekban comes as a set with broth loaded with scallions, boiled pork, and a bowl of rice ~ the pork looked so tender just from the look of it! I hate chewy meat more than anything when eating pork, and this had zero chewiness, no smell — really well boiled!!

How is milmyeon different from naengmyeon?

Milmyeon has a totally different charm from naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles)! It was my husband's first time trying milmyeon and he had no problem with it at all! The broth is less intense than naengmyeon's and the noodles are chewy with a great bite ~ why does Busan have so many good restaurants? Every place we ate at on this trip was delicious... I want to come back to Busan again before I give birth,,,

What side dishes come with the meal?

Side dishes that go well with milmyeon and gukbap ~ raw onion and chili peppers, essential with gukbap, dipped in ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) are absolutely rice-stealing good ~~ the pickled radish strips and kimchi that come alongside are also great! The cucumber and pickled radish come served separately rather than as a topping on the milmyeon, so you can add as much as you like! My husband doesn't eat cucumber, but I love it, so I ate it all myself haha.

Before coming here, I'd already eaten Japanese food and grabbed snacks at Bupyeong Kkangtong Market, so when I heard we were ordering suyuk baekban with mul milmyeon, I thought — huh? That's a lot for just a snack? Turns out, since there's no menu item combining milmyeon with meat, it was actually a strategic move to order suyuk baekban and wrap the pork in the milmyeon — big-picture thinking..! Haha

It looks like bibim naengmyeon or jjolmyeon, but the taste is totally different! Milmyeon has its own distinct charm ~ the bibim milmyeon was my favorite, and the seasoning wasn't too intense, which made it more addictive and easy to eat a lot of! Highly recommend the suyuk baekban too~~
