I've really been feeling how much meat restaurant prices have gone up lately. That's why I went looking for a Goseong-dong spot, and Sangnok Hoegwan turned out to be a Bukgucheong Station restaurant where you can enjoy good quality meat and even seafood at a reasonable price!

A charcoal grill you don't find much these days

This Goseong-dong pork restaurant, Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch, lets you grill meat over actual charcoal, which is hard to find these days — so it somehow gives off that feeling of grilling meat out in the countryside hahahahahaha

Spacious, clean interior seating at Sangnok Hoegwan Goseong Branch

The inside is spacious and clean, so it looked great for group get-togethers too haha. Plus you can book on Naver and reserve for group gatherings, so I'd recommend it as a work dinner spot near Bukgucheong Station!

A seafood lineup that even includes grilled king prawns

Sangnok Hoegwan, this Bukgucheong Station restaurant and pub, has plenty of fresh seafood in addition to meat, and since it's prawn season right now, grilled king prawns had made it onto the menu too~

Self-serve side dishes — watch out for the cheongyang chili

The basic side dishes come from a self-serve corner, so you can just comfortably grab more of whatever you need~!

There are cheongyang chili peppers too, and they're really spicy! If you're weak with spice, be careful... but honestly they were so fresh and delicious I kept eating them and nearly died...

Kimchi and bean sprouts come wrapped in foil so you can warm them up on the grill, and all the basic sides are there — lettuce wraps, onion soy sauce, ssamjang, wasabi, garlic, jaeraegi (pickled scallions), pickled radish, and more haha

The icy mu-saengchae is a real standout

The signature mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad) at Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch comes with a fine crust of ice, so the crunch really pops, and eaten together with the hot meat it's an amazing combination

Sangnok Hoegwan's menu lineup

This Bukgucheong Station restaurant and pub has a great variety of meats — pork, beef and more — plus seafood like abalone and scallops, and the side menu is packed too, so it's nice that everyone can pick according to their own taste

Pork bo 600g: five cuts plus pork skin

What we ordered was the pork bo (600g), made up of samgyeopsal (pork belly), mokssal (pork neck), ogyeop-apsal, hangjeong-mokssal, and handon-tosisal — plus pork skin on top~

Samgyeopsal and mokssal are always the basics, so they go on the grill first~

Samgyeopsal and mokssal on the charcoal grill

The charcoal fire is intense so everything cooked fast haha. And maybe because it's charcoal, the smell was just incredible

A gentle smoky aroma had soaked in, giving it amazing flavor, and it was so juicy that every bite burst with juice. The fire is so strong it can flare up suddenly, but when that happens the staff just cover it right up. No need to panic — just ask a staff member for help~!

Crispy outside, tender inside samgyeopsal

Crispy on the outside, moist inside — this Goseong-dong samgyeopsal is a textbook example of that and I'm fully on board!! It's great plain, or dipped in mu-saengchae or onion soy sauce, and I never got tired of eating it

Thick-cut mokssal on the grill

Thick-cut mokssal and hangjeong-mokssal

Even sliced thick, the mokssal wasn't the least bit chewy and just melted softly in the mouth. When it started to feel a bit rich, eating it with jaeraegi or pickled radish refreshed things and I could keep going hahahahahahahahaha

The hangjeong-mokssal had a much richer texture than regular hangjeongsal (pork jowl). It wasn't just fatty — it was chewy and clean-tasting too, so I really got to appreciate what makes hangjeong-mokssal special. The savory flavor that comes out the more you chew was outstanding

I don't remember exactly which cut this was, but it was so chewy! It's tasty wrapped with bean sprouts too, but I think eating it with cheongyang chili was the best of all haha

Seafood ramyeon loaded with clams and scallops

₩5,900 seafood ramyeon — order it even if you're full

We also ordered the seafood ramyeon I'd been wanting to try~ It's ₩5,900 but loaded with seafood — scallops, clams, squid — and the broth is spicy and rich, honestly.. it was the kind of flavor that made me crave a drink

If you're heading to Sangnok Hoegwan, this Bukgucheong Station restaurant and pub, please, PLEASE order the seafood ramyeon even if you're already full!!!

The marshmallows that came with the meal are for the end~ I'm personally not a fan of pork skin, so I ate the marshmallows while my boyfriend had the pork skin~ haha. In these high-price times, I'd recommend this Goseong-dong pork restaurant, Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch, as a place to enjoy good value!
