Gangdong tonkatsu restaurant with kimchi cheese nabe: Katsu Monster
In short
Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, across from the Burger King in front of Gangdong District Office. Arriving at 5pm, right when break time ends, we ordered mixed katsu B (tenderloin + cheese) for 18,000 won, kimchi cheese nabe tonkatsu for 15,000 won, and menchi katsu for 4,000 won, all tender with no gamey pork smell. Two parking spots sit right in front of Katsu Monster, and the restaurant was nearly full by the time we left, so an early visit is the way to go.

How to find Katsu Monster: across from Burger King at Gangdong District Office
The address of Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch is 28 Seongnae-ro, 1st floor, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

When I put it into navigation, it directed me to the back of the building. In front of Gangdong District Office there's a row of restaurants including Burger King, and this place is right across from Burger King! You pull off the main road onto the sidewalk area and park right in front of the store.
Parking at Katsu Monster: two spots out front

I visited at 5pm right as break time ended, and there are 2 parking spots directly in front of the store. It looked like the staff move the sign board out of the way for you. I arrived a bit early so I just parked in the empty spot next to it.
I called the store ahead of time about visiting before, and they picked up quickly. It might be good to call and ask about parking before you go.
Is there a wait at Katsu Monster?
After ordering, Namsan (my baby) started fussing so I went out to nurse him in the car and came back in, and a customer walking in with us said 'it's always packed, I wonder if there'll be a seat.' Hearing that just made me more excited for the tonkatsu haha.

By the time we left, all but 2 seats were taken. It looked like a place where you might have to wait depending on the timing!

Is the pork at Katsu Monster gamey? Not at all
The tonkatsu came out fast and I dug in right away — there was zero gamey pork smell and it was delicious!! My husband is super picky about meat quality haha, and he was happy there was no gamey smell.
Kimchi cheese nabe tonkatsu, 15,000 won: first bowl in years

It had been years since I last had kimchi cheese nabe tonkatsu, and it was really delicious haha. Dunking soft cheese tonkatsu into the sweet kimchi stew — I wondered why I'd forgotten about this taste for so long! 😁 The rice and broth were great together too. After finishing my rice, I even stole some of my husband's.
Tenderloin katsu and that addictive sauce

The tenderloin katsu was great dipped in salt and mustard too, and the tonkatsu sauce was tangy without being harsh — addictive. The cheese was packed generously in, no skimping haha.

They recommended eating the first bite of tonkatsu with salt, then mixing hot mustard into the sauce. I ate them separately and it was still delicious haha.
Menchi katsu, 4,000 won: the crunch we remember

The menchi katsu was so crispy that I kept thinking about it haha. By the time we finished it, we were seriously stuffed!!
Final verdict on Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch
Today at Katsu Monster I felt like I got a proper protein boost haha (protein is precious...). If you're looking for a great tonkatsu spot near Gangdong Office Station, I'd say give Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch a try!! Recommended!
