What kind of place is Pohang Makhoe, the wild makhoe restaurant near Jeongja Station?
Pohang Makhoe is a wild raw fish (makhoe) and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) restaurant on Jeongjail-ro in Bundang, Seongnam. It sources wild-caught fish from Pohang's Jukdo Market, shipped and sold the same day, making it a great pick if you're looking for good-value wild makhoe near Bundang or Jeongja Station.

Nutty yet clean-tasting wild makhoe, shipped same-day from Pohang's Jukdo Market. Let me introduce this Jeongja restaurant-bar, Pohang Makhoe.
How to find Pohang Makhoe and what the entrance looks like
I found the entrance to Pohang Makhoe easily using Naver walking directions. It's set slightly back from the road, so using Naver's walking navigation helps. You can spot the 'Pohang Makhoe, Wild Makhoe' sign clearly from far away.
Pohang Makhoe sells wild-caught fish from Pohang, shipped and sold the same day — I'm already excited for this Jeongja restaurant-bar.
At the entrance, today's wild makhoe lineup was posted: gizzard shad, amberjack, mixed fish. 'These were swimming in the waters off Pohang until early this morning!' haha. Even more anticipation for the Pohang makhoe — each table has a menu neatly placed on it.

Inside Pohang Makhoe: atmosphere and seating
Inside, Pohang Makhoe has a bit of an outdoor tent-restaurant (yajang) feel, with interior touches that make you feel like you're right by the sea off Pohang — the atmosphere really comes through. A few tables already had guests enjoying wild makhoe with a drink. You can really feel the Jeongja restaurant-bar vibe here.

On the wall, the wild makhoe fish varieties, signature menu, and side menu items are all clearly listed in large text.

The place has real character. Seating ranges from tables for two to group tables, and there are outdoor tables too, making it an even more atmospheric Jeongja restaurant-bar for wild makhoe with a shot of soju.

Isn't the interior really full of character? It would be even better visiting with a good friend.

We took a seat at an outdoor table. Today, we kept it simple with a somaek (soju-beer mix). Catching up with an old friend over the weekend, sharing all kinds of stories about life, warmly and unhurried.
What side dishes come with the makhoe?
Pohang Makhoe's basic spread includes seaweed soup, perilla leaves, seaweed, baek-kimchi, ssamjang, garlic, and more. The variety of fresh side dishes served alongside the vegetables really shows off the freshness.

Same-day shipped wild makhoe from Pohang's Jukdo Market — worth looking forward to. This Bundang sashimi restaurant has even more atmosphere in the evening.
Medium wild makhoe, 39,000 won: mixed fish, amberjack and gizzard shad
We ordered the wild makhoe medium (1-2 people) at ₩39,000. True to a Bundang, Jeongja Station restaurant, it came with a mix of jabeo (mixed fish), amberjack, and gizzard shad. Pohang Makhoe's Jeongja main branch sells wild-caught fish shipped and sold the same day, and it's an independently run store with no ties to other branches — literally, this is wild Pohang makhoe.
Being wild-caught raw fish, expectations are high. There are slight bones in it, which actually adds to the nuttiness. Even better atmosphere for a Bundang sashimi restaurant dinner.

The wild makhoe medium came with mixed fish, amberjack, and gizzard shad — quite a generous portion. Paired with the shredded cucumber served alongside, it tasted even more nutty and fresh.

I eat raw fish fairly often, but today I could tell the taste and freshness were on a whole different level. My friend, sharing drinks with me, said this Jeongja restaurant-bar is one to come back to.

Autumn gizzard shad with chojang and perilla leaves
The gizzard shad, chewy and firm yet clean-tasting, was extra special dipped in chojang (vinegared red pepper paste). Above all, the makhoe was incredibly fresh. Shipped straight from Pohang that day and served the same day — of course it tastes this good. Great as a Bundang sashimi restaurant dinner too.

I also tried wrapping it in the perilla leaves served alongside for a variety of combinations. Again, the chewy, nutty flavor was outstanding, and it went well with garlic and chili too.

The visuals were seriously stunning. It really gets your appetite going.

The color of the same-day shipped gizzard shad. Fall is gizzard shad season, and now's really the time to be eating it.

Mixing it up with ssamjang, seaweed, seaweed soup, and cucumber, the flavors felt even more varied and layered.

On the way out after paying, the dining hall was nearly full. Customers really do know a good restaurant when they see one~

A cozy outdoor-tent vibe but also full of character, like eating right off the coast of Pohang — Pohang Makhoe. I'd recommend a visit for the same-day shipped wild makhoe and mulhoe at this Jeongja restaurant.

Is Pohang Makhoe good for group dinners?
Pohang Makhoe is a mulhoe and makhoe restaurant serving fresh wild raw fish shipped and served the same day, along with a variety of seafood dishes — seasonal specialties like makhoe and Guryongpo gwamegi (dried herring/saury) are especially popular. Seasonal raw fish is definitely the tastiest.
The restaurant is spacious and clean, with an ocean-inspired interior and a variety of seating from group tables to individual seats, making it a great spot for friends, dates, coworkers, work dinners, or gatherings. With generous basic side dishes and a full main menu, I'd recommend visiting Pohang Makhoe for the wild makhoe.
