Gijang Korean restaurant near Osiria Station: hotpot rice, crab jjigae

In short

Dongam Tteokgalbi is a Korean restaurant near Osiria Station in Gijang, Busan, right across from the Lotte Premium Outlets. The 15,000-won set menu comes with a brass-bowl full-table spread, hotpot rice, crab miso stew, and an unlimited self-bar with tofu kimchi, sausage stir-fry, and fried rice. The portion-to-price ratio is almost absurdly generous, making it a solid pick for family meals or group outings.

The unlimited self-bar included in the ₩15,000 set

🥗 A self-bar and side-dish lineup that threatens to steal the show from the main course, buffet-style. It's hard to believe this self-bar is included in a ₩15,000 set — from neat, proper Korean banchan to kid-pleasing special dishes, all unlimited.

Cabbage, red cabbage, and carrot salad with namul side dishes

Freshly shredded cabbage, red cabbage, and carrot salad. Ocean-scented ogonori (sea noodle) namul, and glossy, sesame-topped salty braised soybeans, all neatly laid out.

Acorn jelly salad and kimchi at the self-bar

Bouncy acorn jelly tossed with crown daisy, onion, and a spicy-tangy dressing. Deeply seasoned green onion kimchi, crisp fresh-cut cabbage geotjeori (unfermented kimchi). Refreshing water kimchi and crispy roasted gim (seaweed) to cleanse the palate.

Crunchy white kimchi, cabbage and squid stir-fry, and a shirataki (glass noodle-like) salad with wild sesame leaf.

Tofu kimchi, tteokbokki, and sausage stir-fry: the special dishes lineup

Piping-hot handmade tofu and stir-fried kimchi, fresh from the steamer. Steaming black sesame and white tofu paired with well-braised stir-fried kimchi rivals any dedicated tofu-kimchi restaurant.

Spicy-sweet tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) seasoned just right, and sausage-vegetable stir-fry glistening in a ketchup glaze loaded with crunchy onion and Vienna sausages — an eternal rice thief. The neatly cubed, warm steamed egg is as moist as pudding, perfect for kids too.

There was also savory fried rice along with rich jjajang (black bean) sauce to mix into it, which made scooping up rice a fun extra. A grilled fish review event was also running.

The Dongam Tteokgalbi Set (₩15,000 worth of happiness)

A spread so generous it almost feels wrong to pay only ₩15,000 per person! Even without hitting the self-bar, the basic set tray arrives loaded with neat side dishes. It really does feel like being treated to a royal feast. 😆👍🏻

The side dishes arranged around the main tteokgalbi are also a work of art. Mild, savory stir-fried bracken fern namul, and oyster mushrooms tossed generously in perilla seed dressing.

Spicy-tangy, crunchy dried radish salad, savory braised fish cake, and cleanly seasoned zucchini stir-fry,

And crisp cucumber salad plus macaroni salad... The basic table setting alone is enough to crowd the table, but on top of that you also get unlimited access to the self-bar — that's the real jackpot point of this place! T_T Does the owner even make any money here?!!

Finishing with freshly made hotpot rice and sungnyung

Sticky, freshly cooked hotpot rice and warm sungnyung (scorched rice tea). The moment the lid comes off the hotpot rice, steam rises and the nutty rice aroma hits your nose.

The rice glistens, and every grain keeps its bite. After scooping the rice out into a bowl and pouring hot water into the pot, finishing the meal with savory sungnyung leaves you feeling completely refreshed.

Fresh-off-the-grill charcoal-scented tteokgalbi: size and juiciness

This place's real secret is the cooking station set up in a corner of the restaurant. Once you order, the tteokgalbi is grilled fresh on-site, fully infused with charcoal smokiness — and the subtle charcoal aroma reaches you even before the dish hits the table, making your mouth water instantly.

And another surprise: the tteokgalbi that arrives on the plate is thick and heavy, roughly the size of an adult fist.

A cascade of juice bursts out between the meat fibers. Just a light press with your chopsticks releases clear, savory juices, the way juice seeps from a perfectly ripe, firm fruit.

The refined balance of sweet and salty perfectly supports the meat's own umami.

The outside is golden brown with open-flame charcoal aroma, while the inside is tender and juicy.

The crab miso stew that comes with the set

One of the true stars anchoring the set table is the crab-infused doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)! With crab in the broth, it's both savory and refreshingly spicy at once, filling your whole mouth.

Alternating between the savory-sweet-salty tteokgalbi and a hot, deep spoonful of the stew creates a strangely addictive combo that makes you eat endless bowls of rice.

Dessert: 4 kinds of old-school snacks

Dessert too, after the meal! On one side of the self-bar, there are as many as four kinds of nostalgic old-school snacks neatly arranged. Bite into one and the crisp crunch and sweetness give the meal a clean, satisfying finish.

A meal to consider during a Gijang trip

This place completely shattered my assumption that 'all tteokgalbi tastes the same.' For ₩15,000 per person, you get thick, juice-packed meat, plus unlimited access to a self-bar full of carefully made dishes, from sausage stir-fry to tofu kimchi to fried rice!

If you're stopping by the Gijang Lotte Outlet or Dongbusan Tourist Complex and want a 'truly filling, satisfying meal,' I highly recommend Dongam Tteokgalbi!
