Tonkatsu restaurant near Suyu Station, Seoul: Katsu Shokudou Suyu
In short
Katsu Shokudou Suyu is a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant on the first floor of Episode Suyu838, near Suyu Station in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. Ordering the rosu-katsu set and the katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl) to share showed two clearly different dishes: the rosu-katsu came out freshly fried and crisp, while the katsudon was moist with sauce soaked into the rice. With rice, salad and soup refills included when each person orders a menu item, Katsu Shokudou Suyu is a solid pick for a filling meal near Suyu Station.

While trying to decide on dinner in Suyu, I found myself craving crispy tonkatsu, so I headed to Katsu Shokudou Suyu. Tonkatsu is a dish everyone loves, but these days every specialty shop varies the meat thickness, breading, and sauce, so it's fun to compare them. Katsu Shokudou is known for its high-quality tonkatsu and varied menu, and it's built a solid word-of-mouth reputation as a go-to spot near Suyu Station.

Where is Katsu Shokudou Suyu, and is there parking?
This Suyu tonkatsu favorite sits on the first floor of Episode Suyu838, right near Suyu Station, so it's easy to get to, and parking is available if you're coming by car.

One important thing — with one menu ordered per person, rice, salad, soup, and curry (if you order a curry dish) are all refillable, so you can eat as much as you like. I couldn't believe this Blue Ribbon-rated katsu spot with lines out the door in Pangyo had opened a branch in Episode Suyu — now I don't have to travel far for it!

Katsu Shokudou Suyu has a clean, tidy atmosphere
Inside Katsu Shokudou Suyu: solo-friendly seating and the full menu
Walking into Katsu Shokudou Suyu, the first thing I noticed was how clean and well-organized the space felt. As a tonkatsu specialist, it seemed like a comfortable place to eat solo, but also great for two people who want to order different dishes and share. The menu ranges from classic rosu-katsu to hire-katsu (fillet cutlet), cheese katsu, and other tonkatsu varieties, plus rice-bowl dishes like katsudon, curry, and udon — plenty of options to choose from.

Tonkatsu is a dish loved by all ages — perfect for a date, a family meal, or any kind of gathering.

You get high-quality food at a reasonable price, which is a relief given how expensive everything's gotten these days~

The classic rosu-katsu set, and the katsudon for a filling rice-bowl meal

Rosu-katsu set: crispy breading and thick-cut pork
The rosu-katsu set at Katsu Shokudou Suyu arrived with the tonkatsu neatly arranged, fried to a mouthwatering golden color. Served alongside rice, soup, and cabbage, it was a fully satisfying meal on its own.

Made with high-quality, fresh meat, the rosu-katsu set was crispy outside and moist inside~ The thick cut of meat meant that with each bite, you could feel both the crunch of the breading and the texture of the meat together. Paired with fresh cabbage salad, rice, and even udon, this set menu was ideal for a satisfying, filling meal.

I tried it with a little wasabi on top, and also dipped in salt to taste the meat's natural flavor — this rosu-katsu handled both well!! If you want to enjoy tonkatsu in its purest form, I highly recommend the rosu-katsu set.

How does the katsudon differ from the rosu-katsu?
The dish I chose was katsudon. Even though it uses the same tonkatsu, the eating experience is definitely different from the rosu-katsu set! If rosu-katsu is about enjoying the crispy texture of freshly fried tonkatsu, katsudon is a dish where the sauce and rice come together for a moister experience.

The generously sliced katsu sits on top of the rice, making it easy to enjoy rice and tonkatsu together in one bite. With the sauce mixed in, the rice is naturally seasoned too, making this an addictive katsudon that keeps you reaching for more even without side dishes~

If you like eating something moist and filling with rice, I recommend the katsudon~
