Medium-spicy dakgangjeong in Suyu Market, Seoul: Gimssi Chicken
In short
Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch is a chicken shop in Suyu Market in Gangbuk, Seoul, selling dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken bites) alongside old-style whole fried chicken and regular fried chicken. A large medium-spicy dakgangjeong (13,000 won) and 7 drumsticks ordered to go stayed crisp because the sauce is tossed on a griddle the moment you order, and the drumsticks were soft and juicy inside. Medium spice sits around the heat of carbo buldak noodles, and at 9,900 won for a whole fried chicken to go, Gimssi Chicken is strong value.

Today I want to introduce a chicken spot I found while visiting Suyu Market in Seoul 😊 This is Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch, which sells everything from crispy dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken bites) to old-style whole fried chicken and plain fried chicken.

The crispy texture and the sweet-spicy sauce really stood out at this dakgangjeong spot in Suyu Market — let me show you! 🍗

Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch is a great stop when you're at Suyu Market and craving chicken or dakgangjeong.

Gimssi Chicken is a family-run dakgangjeong brand with 15 years of history, said to make its chicken with a long-kept secret sauce and fresh ingredients.

Dakgangjeong sizes and prices, plus the 9,900 won takeout chicken
Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch sells a range of chicken menu items, including dakgangjeong, fried chicken, and old-style whole fried chicken. What caught my eye was the ₩9,900 price for a whole chicken when packed to go — a great value chicken option, I thought.

Dakgangjeong comes in mild, medium-spicy, and spicy, with sizes priced at ₩9,000 (medium), ₩13,000 (large), and ₩17,000 (extra-large).

In the showcase in front of the shop were well-fried wings, drumsticks, chicken legs, and old-style whole fried chicken on display.

The golden-brown look of the old-style whole fried chicken looked so tasty haha

You can also buy individual parts separately, which seems great if you want to try a bit of everything along with the dakgangjeong.

Inside the shop, they kept frying chicken continuously.
✨ From glossy dakgangjeong to golden fried chicken 🍗, plus the cozy market vibe 💛 — I captured it all in a short video, check it out first 🎬

Sauce tossed on a griddle the moment you order
At Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch, once an order comes in, they prepare the chicken, and for the sauced items, they toss the chicken with sauce right on a griddle in front of the customer.

As the sauce meets the fried chicken, it gets shiny and glossy! ✨
With dakgangjeong, if the sauce is tossed ahead of time it can get soggy as time passes, but since they toss it right when you order, I expected the crispy texture to hold up haha
What I ordered this time: ✔️ Dakgangjeong medium-spicy (large size) ✔️ 7 drumsticks, that's what I got haha

How spicy is the large medium-spicy dakgangjeong?
The medium-spicy large dakgangjeong is ₩13,000, and after packing it up, I tried the dakgangjeong first.

On the first bite, it was crispy outside and tender inside — really tasty.

Usually with dakgangjeong, the texture gets soggy over time once the sauce is tossed, but because Gimssi Chicken tosses it right when you order, the crispy texture held up well.

There was also fried rice cake mixed into the dakgangjeong.

The flavor I ordered was medium-spicy, and personally it reminded me of the spice level of carbo buldak noodles 🌶️ Next time I visit, I'd like to try the mild flavor too!

What the 7 drumsticks were like
I also tried the drumsticks I ordered alongside the dakgangjeong.

The drumsticks were also delicious, with soft, juicy meat inside.
Why Gimssi Chicken is my pick for dakgangjeong in Suyu Market
Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch, a dakgangjeong spot in Suyu Market, had great crispy texture thanks to the sauce being tossed the moment you order, and the drumsticks were soft and juicy, pairing well with the dakgangjeong. Best of all, being able to get a whole bone-in fried chicken for ₩9,900 when packed to go is appealing too — great value for whenever I want chicken without much of a burden haha. If you're looking for dakgangjeong or chicken at Suyu Market, I'd recommend stopping by 👍 Next time I visit, I'm going to try the mild dakgangjeong and the fried chicken too 😊
