There's someone in my house who can eat 10 rolls of gimbap (seaweed rice roll) in one sitting — my husband. Haha. Honestly, you could say his body is basically made of gimbap, that's how much he loves it.

Even if I made him gimbap every single day, he'd never get tired of it. Lately I've been trying to diet a bit, so I stopped making it for him, and for days now he's been begging for gimbap. So today, while I was out in Sangam-dong, I found a gimbap place nearby and got some takeout for him.

Where is Samhyeongje Gimbap, Sangam branch?

Samhyeongje Gimbap (삼형제김밥), Sangam branch is a gimbap specialty shop on basement level 1 of Nuri Dream Square, near Digital Media City Station and Sangam Culture Square. It's located near the Zone A stairs, unit 1029 on B1. All the unit numbers are clearly marked, so it's easy to find while walking around.

Looking through reviews, a lot of people said even one roll is filling and delicious. But I figured two rolls wouldn't be nearly enough for my husband, so today I decided to just get 3 rolls.

Takeout only: rolled fresh when you order

Samhyeongje Gimbap, Sangam branch specializes in takeout. Some rolls are already made, and if what you ordered isn't ready, they roll it fresh on the spot.

We ordered 1 original yubu gimbap, 1 ham-crab stick yubu gimbap, and 1 cheese yubu gimbap — 3 rolls total! The ham-crab stick one wasn't made yet, so the owner rolled it fresh right in front of us. Looking around, they were prepping an enormous amount of ingredients — probably for a bulk order from a nearby company or organization.

I watched for a bit as it was being made, and the amount of filling going in was wild. Plenty of rice, and the fillings piled on generously — and yet the hands moved so fast!

Even rolling it that quickly, the shape stayed neat and clean — impressive. Rolling gimbap isn't easy, and this really proved that not just anyone can run this kind of business, haha.

How can 3 rolls of gimbap weigh this much?

Walking out of Samhyeongje Gimbap, Sangam branch with our 3 rolls... wait, what? It was genuinely heavy. It felt heavy enough from the moment I picked it up that I doubted it was really just 3 rolls. Honestly, it felt like about 6 rolls' worth. Haha.

My husband's eyes went wide the second he picked it up, and he couldn't resist trying one right away. First up: the ham-crab stick yubu gimbap!

I tried one of the round pieces myself. Looking closely, the rice layer was really thin while the filling inside was completely packed. I'd genuinely recommend Samhyeongje Gimbap to anyone watching their diet these days!

Ham-and-crab-stick yubu gimbap: filling all the way through

The ham-crab stick yubu gimbap had a neat, packed filling and the seasoning was spot on. Wow, so good — the kind of taste you keep going back for.

Even with so many ingredients packed in, none of the flavors clashed — each one came through individually while blending well together overall. Above all, the rice-to-filling ratio was great, so every bite really let the ingredients shine.

Cheese yubu gimbap tastes nutty and rich too

Back home, I arranged the leftover rolls nicely on a plate — original, ham-crab stick, and cheese yubu gimbap, all three.

Laid out together on one plate, the colors looked great and the rolls were clearly big. The cheese yubu gimbap especially had its own charm with that nutty cheese flavor added in. Each ingredient's natural taste came through while working well together, and we enjoyed all three.

A 10-roll eater who couldn't finish 3 rolls

And here's the funniest part... my husband, who can eat 10 rolls of gimbap, could not finish these 3 rolls of Samhyeongje Gimbap. Haha. That should tell you just how generous the portions are.

Each roll itself is pretty big and packed solidly with filling, so it's more filling than you'd expect.

I thought it'd be great to share among several people like we did, or even for a company group lunch order.

Especially for companies in Sangam that need to prep gimbap for a group, rolls this generous would probably satisfy everyone.

Is Samhyeongje Gimbap good value in Sangam-dong?

At Samhyeongje Gimbap, Sangam branch, each roll is packed with filling and generously sized, so even one roll is quite filling. Trying it this time, I understood exactly why the reviews are so good.

Personally, I think this is a solid choice for anyone looking for good gimbap in Sangam-dong, or a simple lunch spot in Mapo. It's also convenient to take home or to the office, making it a great fit for a Mapo lunch option too.

If only I lived closer, I'd want to buy a roll every single day. 😂 My husband's already asking me to bring more back next time I'm in Sangam-dong. I thought 3 rolls would be plenty this time, but he couldn't even finish that... Generous portions, great taste — this is genuinely great-value gimbap! 👍
